Garmin GPS Mount

Hey, I am new to the forum. I wanted to find out of there was a mount for a Garmin NUVI 350. I have seen the one that mounts to the left of the tach but wasn't sure where to get one.

The one to the left of the tach is available from the dealer. You can buy the mount with wiring harness for $175 I believe.

Maybe this is because I switch my Zumo from my motorcycle to my MINI, but isn't there a suction cup mount that comes with the unit? That's what I use and it's perfect for my needs when I need GPS on four wheels.

I think the Kuda is for the 06 or earlier. I have an 07 S Hardtop. I'll check with the dealer.

The Kuda is great. It looks OEM and doesn't get in the way at all. The MINI OEM mount doesn't give your passenger any access to the NAV.

If you look at this thread there is a lot of info about the Garmin Nuvi 360 OEM bracket:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co....php?p=2143090

You can find out where to get it at a discount, how to install it, and pics.

Which specific Kuda parts would I need to order for my 09 JCW Mini, to install a Garmin 460W on the left side of my tach?

ebay has Kuda too.
I also bought a Garmin car charger and suction/windsheild mount for when I use rentals or others drive, but the conveniance of mount made me use it on MINI too.

watch the video: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-revealed.html

They have a nice set up which attaches to one side of your tach.

And you can add a mount on the other side to add other components as well.......

To resurrect a thread from the dead. I'm returning my lease, and it has the bracket installed, so I want to remove it so I can potentially install it in a new car.

The dealer installed the bracket, so I'm curious as to how much I should remove, such that when I get a new car I can get it installed again, not missing any parts.

Does X9002 stay on the car? Should there be a 'cover' that I install when I remove the wiring harness?

Are the screws longer than stock/I should get new/shorter ones to replace them when I return the car?

Thanks

Use the bean bag

Garmin has a bean bag you just set on the dash. It comes with a mount and then you can put it anywhere you want ...even in a (gulp)rental car

That's the problem I found with most mounts, so.... I made my own! Both the passenger and the driver can see it very easily!

Photo 1:
The mount was machined from a piece of solid aluminum to match the contour of the Mini's speedometer. A ball was made to fit a typical Garmin mount.

Photo 2:
The mount painted and then installed with double sided tape.

Photo 3:
GPS Unit installed.

I've done this install once with the old style, and once with the new style, so I'll try to hit your questions based on my memory of the install.

The kit installs into the X9002 harness using adapters. You have to pull the correct wire and pins from the harness, and then insert them into the splice adapters. You should be able to carefully disassemble these and put them back into the factory harness. Just make sure you line up the correct colored wires into the right slot in the harness.

The screws that come with the kit are longer than the original screws. They probably wont fit back in without the bracket installed, but I'm not sure. You can also probably take the screws out and use them to go to a hardware store and find a shorter screw with the right thread.

If you try to install in a new car, most of the kit should work, but you may have to get new parts for the plastic parts that are used to connect the OEM harness wires. I'm not sure of the correct term, but you'll know what I'm talking about if you take it apart. If you are really careful removing the wiring, you'll be able to reuse them.

Hope that helps.

A different spin on mounting a GPS

I want to install my Garmin but didn't want it hanging off my dash or stuck to my window because it has a tendency to attract thieves to break into your car even if the unit isn't mounted. They assume that if there is a mount there the GPS is probably somewhere in the car. I mounted mine in the empty space under the window switch assembly.

Advantages:
-- Unused space anyway
-- Gives it a built in look
-- Not noticable to someone walking by the car even with the GPS in place
-- Power port is right there, no wiring to do, just plug it in - Turns off autmatically when you turn the car off since this is a switch plug.
-- No glare in bright sunlight
All I did was attach a piece of smooth plastic across the back of the down tubes and mounted the GPS to that using the windshield suction cup. Perfect!

The problem I have with putting it down low like that is that it takes your eyes so far off the road to see the display, also it would be impossible to input anything - which you're not supposed to do anyway.

Since I use mine as a speedo, I like it up in the line of sight.

I know not many people a big fan of putting the gps unit below but I found this for those who're interested...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...ht_2274wt_1208

It should work pretty well, no splicing, just stick it up the jack and should be good....

Just ordered one, and we shall see how it goes.
