Navigation & Audio Aux input question
#5
i'm thinking the aux input option that the dealership taps into the aux on the back of the unit and then relocate's the Jacks to where you can reach them
#6
oh, well in that case it should have the aux input "port" for it to communicate/transmit through your HU

Note that some '02 cars were not Aux ready. I know for sure that the April 02 head unit builds would not recognize the Aux-in. I *think* the ready date was Aug '02, but can't remember for sure.
So if you get the Aux-in, plug it in and it's not recognized, you'll need a later model head unit.

Here you go...

It looks like your build date just made the cut-off One thing to note is the stock HU dosn't have a phono or a set RCA jacks like most aftermarket HU's have, so you may be stuck getting the factory adapter.

No it doesn't have a jack on the back, but there is a plug port. That is, it isn't a 1/8" standard jack, but a port into which you plug the Aux Input adapter. You could just buy the Aux Input adapter, and just plug into it wherever you install it.

Hey Kool,
I installed an Aux. input adapter in my April build 03. It was easy, pull open the panel under the steering wheel, takes a real good tug, now you can reach to the back of the HU. The port is on the drivers side, pretty much right behind the volume ****, feel for it with your fingers, the OEM adapter packages show which way the clip goes, on top if I remember right, just push it in firmly until it locks in. Now turn on the head unit, and push the mode button from radio-CD- to Aux, if you see Aux come on, you can plug anything into the jack to make sure your getting a signal, then your ready to press on and install the female jack wherever you want, it comes with lots of wire, and a mounting plate.
You can also go into the HU settings, and set an input level for AUX after you plug in the adapter.

Kool, here's another great pic of the back of the head unit showing the location (lower right in the pic) of the aux input pins, This pic shows the yellow/red wires from the nav unit plugged into it. The aux input jack is in the foreground.

BTW, CD changer uses a different connector and is separate from aux-in.

I've been out of the MINI scene for a while (ok, since 03...but just got back in!) so I've missed a lot of this. Apologies for asking what seems to be obvious, but my '06 Cooper would only require that I pick up the OEM Aux-In pluggy bit and then I'd be set?
(I think "pluggy bit" is actually the technical term for it)
