Finally an interface that will work on iPhone 3G

I just purchased the "new" version of the Dice unit that has the right cable to charge the 3G iphone. Enfig car stereo has a $25.00 discount available bringing the cost down to $120.00 + shipping which is realistic ($7.60 to FL.).
Talk to Christian @(201) 490-5015. This is the best deal out there that I'm aware of if you need an interface.

Have you installed it yet? If so does it work? Cause mine doesn't and I just got it yesterday, in fact it fried my body bus system and now I have to go to the dealership to get it fixed!!! I have a 3G iphone too but I will NEVER hook up another aftermarket interface in my Mini again. And I will most certainly never hook my iphone to anything but ipod products again. It just isn't worth the enormous risk to your car that's involved in instaling such products into the Mini!!

Good luck with your's though I personaly wouldn't expect much from it though the thread dealing with this interface is 34 yes that's right 34 PAGES long!!! 34pages=lots and lots of problems and user difficulty. I went against my better judgement and ordered one and I REGRET ever doing that. From what I read on the forum thread it's pretty much hit or miss as to weather the unit will work properly or at all. But no one has experienced the problems I'm having so I'm sure it's just a bad unit, but that don't mean I want another one...NO WAY!!!! When I'm at the dealership I will see what they want for thier stock interface.

Not Yet

Gotcurves, sorry to hear about all the problems. I only hope they can find a way to work them out at the dealership. I haven't gotten the "DICE" unit yet because they haven't started shipping the unit with the cable that allows the 3G iphone to charge. The previous models would supposedly work but would not allow the phone to charge while plugged because of differences in the plugs and charge type over previous generations. This model should ship in the next 2 weeks and as soon as I install it I will get an update out to everyone. Hope everything works out Gotcurves, good luck.

Thanks for the understanding.

BTW I removed the Dice wiring harness and all systems came back...except stereo volume. Somehow the dice unit damaged or changed the output of the head unit to nothing. Everything was working fine before the install and now my stereo has no output, I wonder if EAS has any factory H/K stereos they can replace mine with?

On a side note I just found out from AT&T that the iphone 3g is not and will never be picture and video messaging capable. I was told by the AT&T store that it is but my area hasn't been upgraded to 3g and thats why I can't picture of video messaging. I've been lied to by AT&T reps more in the past 2 months than I have been in the 5 year history I had with Verizon. So needless to say AT&T is letting out of my contract with no termination fee.

GOTCURVES, I've been researching different iPod interface options and originally, I thought a DICE was going to be the best way to go, but after hearing some major horror stories and just other small issues that shouldn't happen (low sound, low bass, bad interfaces, etc.) I'm looking elsewhere. I'd be interested in hearing reviews on this 'new generation' DICE that is coming to you, cfoley, but, I'm still pretty skeptical. I'll be watching threads like this. Thanks for posting, guys.

I installed the Dice unit for the 3G that I got from Enfig Stereo just before Thanksgiving and am very pleased with it. My 03 MCS doesn't display the song title on the radio but the 3G is mounted right next to it and I can see the album covers on the phone. The only thing to be aware of is when you first start the car with the phone plugged in you get a message on the phone asking if you want to go into "airplane mode", when I click no it goes on and works great. Have also started listening to Pandora radio thru the phone which is pretty cool. When the phone rings the music is muted and I can answer thru the bluetooth. All in all I'm very pleased with it.

Back this past summer, I purchased an iPod dock kit for my 03 MC from Best Buy for about $120 that was compatible with my iPhone 3G. It worked reasonably well. (I say reasonably because I was looking for something to give me full control via the MFSW, but that didn't exist.) I'm not sure what brand it was. I don't think it was DICE, though.

Thanks for the follow-up's guys. My needs are fairly simple. I want an iPod to work in my Mini. If it goes through my nav system or displays on my radio, neato, if not, no big deal. I usually turn off the nav system anyway. I bought it that way for the Chrono Pack, the nav was icing on the cake. As long as I can rig a swanky cradle up near the nav I'm set. I'm thinking the Dice may be overkill plus, nearly every person who owns it responds, "I love it and it works great but... [insert small design/electrical issue here that is just small enough to be totally annoying each time you use it but not worth ripping the system out for]". I guess what I really need is the Aux-in port and a swanky cradle set-up. That'd probably work for me, but, without these posts, I'd never know it! Again, thanks guys!

I looked at that same unit but it wasn't compatible with the MFSW and it would NOT charge the 3G. The Dice unit that I wound up with works well and is compatible with the charging and the MFSW.

Hey Guys, if you have questions about an interface call Christian at the number listed above. He was extremely helpful when I was in the market and they carry several different interface devices. Their prices are the best that I found anywhere and they don't rip you off on shipping. Tell him you heard about them on NAM and he might even give you a better price. They're in NJ but don't let that scare you

The one I picked up worked with the MFSW (sort of). You could adjust volume and skip tracks, you just couldn't navigate through the menus and what not, all that had to be done via the phone (or iPod). It may not have charged it, I don't remember. (I returned it the same day after I found out that it wouldn't let me navigate through the menus.) I honestly wouldn't want it to charge it. That would kill the battery real quick.

U R still looking

Yes, I get your point. You want your MFSW to do everything that the ipod will do. You're going to be looking for a while. That is why I mounted my 3G next to the stereo..so I could switch tracks, playlists and dial the phone without reaching much past the stereo. I hope you find what you're looking for. Best of luck.

I had the Dice HD unit for my iPod Nano. Never quite worked right, and now won't work at all with my 3G. I know about the cable/recharging issue, but the 3G screen would show some goofy message and force me to use the MFSW for everything which it was incapable of.

So I bought a Kuda mount/Carcomm 3G cradle. Works great although I haven't mounted it yet.

Sin, I used a Panavise mount with a Profit holder to keep it by the stereo. It looks great and I'm happy with the way it sounds. If you get a chance download the Pandora radio app it works and sounds great. Just be careful, you have to touch the screen to switch songs the MFSW won't work on it except for the volume. Good luck with the new setup.

For a mount for my 3G I bought this http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/windowseat

Then I cut the cover off of the cup holder ashtray (don't smoke and woundn't in the Mini if I did) and epoxied the mounting puck to the ashtray then simply apply electrical tape to the upper outer rim of the ash tray to ensure a tight fit (I did this cause I needed a static mount for the 3G so the Dynolicious software would be as accurate as possible) then suction the mount to the modified ashtray and your set!

The really nice thing I like about this mount is that you can adjust the length of the mount to where it's right next to the gear shift or remove all extensions to the mount and place the phone right on top of the ashtray and completely out of the way. If I can find the time I will take some pics and post them. (I'm not very good about posting pictures but I will try)

As for finding an interface I've called off the hunt unless by some miracle someone comes out with an interface with no issues but I highly doubt it. It would be a resonable assumption that Dice would be the farthest along with this, but it seems like the attitude Dice has about thier product would suggest that they are fine with how it is. Who knows so for now I will just continue making playlists and burning the mp3's to cd and enjoy my music that way, one thing about this method...it's never had an issue!

lol...

Yeah, I already looked for a looooooong time. I'm pretty sure they don't exist. But that's okay, I got something to mount my iPhone like you did. It's not ideal, but it works!

Moxie, keep in mind if you get the Profit cradle like I did you might have to take a dremel tool to it. I got mine when they first came out and the opening for the volume button wasn't large enough and it pinched the volume button so that speaker showed on the face of the phone non stop. I reamed it out and it looks and works fine now. I called Profit to make them aware of the flaw but I have no idea if they corrected it or not.

I actually went with that Kensington goose neck power adapter deal with a built in connection for the aux. input. I got an Apple gift card for X-mas, and that's what I spent it on. It's not the greatest mount ever (it tends to bend a little bit on tight corners), but it'll get the job done for now. I'll probably be looking for another one though, so I'll keep that in mind. Thanks, man!
