Navigation Issues

My wife has been wanting a Mini for many years and we bought a 2004 recently, however, I'm very disappointed with the Nav system. The navigation system in our 2004 Mini has a periodic problem, sometimes it comes back with a "No disk error message, and doesn't work at all. Other times the disk won't eject. Is there any secret to operating this system? Deeply appreciate any help!

Is this an original disk or a copy? Copies tend to start to fail for some reason. Also, if you go to the setup menu you will see some numbers in the upper right, post those so we know what you have and can help you better.

Did you buy an updated DVD perhaps? If so, you will need to update the firmware to get it working right.

Your currently running V20 released in 2003 and the latest is V32. I highly recommend you update as it turns on dual layer capabilities for the MK4. It may solve your problems.

You can get it at the link above. Burn the image to a CD and pop in in with the key in the first position.

I downloaded the file and burned it onto a CD, but the Nav system ejects the CD and will not load. Any ideas?
Thanks

I have to ask this as it is a common mistake. How did you burn the files? They are an image file meaning that those files contain all the files that need to be on the CD. Just putting those files on a disk will not work.

What was the extension of the files? If they were .nrg, you will need Nero to burn them to a CD.

After I had downloaded the file, I burned it to a CD using Nero, as a data CD. I also burned it as a data DVD, I know it's the same format, but, I thought it wouldn't hurt. The CD ejects in about five seconds and the screen reads incorrect CD/DVD.

Try reburning at low speed, or on a different brand of CD disc, or on a different computer drive. The Nav drive is known to be very sensitive to the burn quality of the firmware CD.

I hate mention to this, but since your Nav has had reading issues with both map and firmware discs... well, draw your own conclusion.
