Your HU is Aux-input ready. You need an OEM aux input cable - plugs into the back of the stereo, then can either be mounted or left free floating.

Lots of info in threads here:

Alternatively, if you have steering wheel radio controls or would like to be able to access playlists on your iPod using the head unit preset buttons, you could get the MINI iPod adapter cable. It plugs into the head unit where the CD changer would normally plug in, so your 2004 would support it.

You can pick up an iPod kit at Best Buy for about $120. I think that's quite a bit cheaper than the OEM kit for the R53, AND you can use it with your iPhone.

The speaker grills in front will be silver and say "Harmon Kardon" on the bottom, and the rear grills will be silver.

If it says "Hardan Kardon" or "Harmon Kardon" on the speaker, you will have a fake one.
Sorry, couldn't help myself

In addition to saying "Harman Kardon" on the speakers like Eric says, you should have the amp either in the passenger side rear panel, visible when you open the little flap (R53) or under the passenger seat (R52).
Also, your HU will have in the settings the values Mini H/K, Electronic, Festival, Spatial, Instrumental , after Bass/Treble etc.
