I have this setup in my MINI (1490LMT with the EcoRoute HD). It's been great. Only problem I've had with it is that every once in awhile the HD and the Garmin don't pair up.

Yep, mine's been doing that lately. For almost a year it worked fine, now sometimes I have to restart it and once in a while it says it can't find the dongle....

I'm going to try the new firmware download and see if that helps.

This is an interesting thread... If one installs the Garmin ecoRoute HD Vehicle Diagnostics Communicator will that prevent the Mini's functions from working?

Great thread except it's causing me to want to spend even more money!!!!

And my old GPS just broke this morning....imagine that!

So is there a list of the Garmins that are compatible with this?

I'm interested in this as well. I'm curious as to how many gauges there are to choose from. I've searched their website and downloaded the documentation but no mention of it.

To those that own one, are the gauges shown the only ones that can be displayed or can you pick and choose which ones to display from a list based on OBDII data?

Can choose 5 gauges to display at a time. One large one in the middle and 4 smaller ones at each corner. You can choose each gauge to display:
Speedo
RPM
Voltage
Engine temp
Mass airflow sensor
Intake manifold temp
Intake pressure...boost
Engine load

What I have on mine is bold in the above list, with the speedo in the middle.

I might add what it can't do. It can't decipher the "Service" notification.

Anyone familar or have used this application in the past?

Cheers.
I actually decided to go this route as I was due for a free upgrade on the phone, I ordered the Dongle, and have already downloaded the torque App, just waiting for the mount from craven speed to come. Very easy to set up so far and I have 5 guages viewing, will post some pictures when it is all set up

Hmm, I also have timing advance (I know, because it's one of my 5). I'll have to see if I get any others not on your list.

I love my 1490T. Had it at least 3 months and it is great. You can set a destination still and hear the audible turns. Unfortunately, it does not have a mini info gauge that could show some of the data from the trip; such as distance to turn, miles to destination, arrival time. I bought my HD from Newegg.com for $99 and not tax, no shipping

Mine does show how far to next turn and I have it set to show estimated arrival time in lower left--the only thing I miss is compass direction (I've set it up so the ETA replaces the compass direction when following directions).

I meant while the other guages are displayed. If you have all the guages up, Boost, coolant, etc, be nice if they had a guage that showed trip info if you have a trip set and running in the background.

Ah, gotcha--good point. I usually find that I'm looking at gauges because of the way I'm driving, or I'm navigating because I have no idea where I'm going. But it would be ideal if we could pick and choose the layout from all possible options.

navigate and watch gauges

You could always buy another GPS to navigate with, and use the first one to display the gauges.

Love the guage screen, guessing the only cord is for power? Does it come with differnent mounting brackets? Where have some of you mounted? Sure beats paying for the extra guages next to the RPM pod.

The EcoRoute HD has just the ODBC II connector.
The Garmin has just the power cord.

Currently it's either suction cupped to the speedo or attached to the Garmin bean bag dash mount.

Craven Speed has a MINI GPS Mounting Kit that includes a power cable extension plug and wire taps so you can power the GPS under the console and still have the 12v socket available above. Also, they have a longer bracket available for larger GPSes. You may need to talk to someone to be sure to get the 5" vs the 3.5". (Thanks to Scooter162 for this info).

I'll probably be getting the Craven Speed mount.

Couldn't have said it better than Rainman. I went with the CravenSpeed mount with the longer arm: see my gallery for a photo. If you'd like more, or have any questions, just let me know.

Oh, and the cord on my 1490LMT provides power, but also has the bit that receives live traffic info (which has been QUITE useful here in the Los Angeles area).

Same setup I have. Looks great and the steering wheel doesn't cover up the GPS. It's also very easy to disconnect the GPS and stow it in the glove box when you park.
