Rear Seat Delete Project Finished

Built a single 10in JL into the trunk's recession. Cut out a top piece of 3/4 MDF for the top of the rectangle box then cut a third of the MDF out and drilled two holes for lanyard/pull pins for easy removal of the box as a whole. Now for the actual seat delete I also cut a piece of 3/4 MDF out to fit snug in the rear in place of the seats. All of it I carpeted in black interior carpet/sub box carpet to match my upholstery. Now for the RSD MDF section I put a single hinge on the back where the seats mount in towards the middle. I also mounted four+1 support to distribute weight evenly upon the 3/4 MDF section. In the very front I have a drawer handle mounted upside down with 4 plastic spacers to act as supports as well. All this is invisible unless you open the RSD itself. Now as the AMP's go I mounted both underneath the RSD upside down. They give me no trouble as air movement goes. Pretty handy considering the back seats are basically buckets so there is a nifty storage compartment on either side even with the amps mounted in there as well.

I will say that with everything completed it sounds great with the little bit of polyfill. I have everything running of a high volt pre-out outfitted JVC. All in all I spent upwards of 700 dollars to replace my entire sound system. All 6x9's, 6.25's, 10in JL and the H/U were installed by me. Only thing missing is the PITA steering wheel controller that I haven't gotten around to.

Excuse the messy interior as I have been overhauling it accordingly. Have to keep up with all the Subies in the neighborhood.

Also if there is any fellow motoring MINI's around the Ogden UT area give me a shout out! I need some competition through the canyons. I can't possibly be pulled over alone all the time.

Happy motoring.

Any questions or concerns just let me know.

Yeah I haven't had any cooling issues at all, everything runs smooth no safe modes engaged here.

No feedback? I'm also contemplating mounting a roof rack as well to utilize the MINI's storage potential.

I like it

I built a similar box to go in the trunk recession, but I didn't have your nifty two piece idea. I have to take the box apart to get it out!

It looks great to me, I keep wanting to do the rear seat delete but I occasionally have 4 people in the car.

I also want a roof rack, I have a few dents in my roof due to not having one and being stubborn. Ive had a 16' canoe up there, kitchen cabinets from Lowe's, 2x4's out the sunroof etc. I saw some somewhere that had two strips you bolt to your roof down each side of the sunroof (permanent) and then feet that lock on to the strips. I like the idea of how strong that rack would be, but I haven't talked myself into putting the strips on my roof yet.

And I wish I was in CO to ride those roads with you. I just cruise the dirt roads in South GA, haha.

That is a very nice set up, very clean look. I was contemplating putting 2 JL 8" ZR speakers to compliment my ZR components in the front of my GP. You may have just inspired me to do so!
