CD quality sound

I'm getting CD quality sound. The FM transmitters are not very good, the music sounds flatter. I would love to have the minijack at the extra toggle switch, but the problem there is could interfere a bit with the cupholder.

So is it confirmed that the 05 stock head units will play Mp3 data CDs?

The dynamic range of CD's is much greater than what you can hear on the radio. FM transmitters effectively limit the sound quality of your CD/MP3 player for the sake of convenience.

Any news on the release of the adaptor?

It's been a while since we've heard anything regarding the MINI version of the iPod adaptor from Apple. Anyone have any news?

My 3-series sister has had hers a month!

Not even a release date yet. I called the dealer today. Same story for the factory armrest. Release of upgrades to MINI is a second priority to that of BMW.

My sister has had her BMW-only iPod adaptor installed for about a month now! I've been number one on the MINI dealer wait list for a MINI iPod adaptor since 6/15/04! I have held in my hand one of 40 [stocked!] BMW adaptors. I compared BMW and MINI head unit connectors. They're different: one has bullet connectors in the plug [BMW]; the other [MINI] has small spade connectors. The BMW adaptor could be made to work with some splicing. The only difference is in the plug; functionality is identical.

My sister loves hers. Works great.

I'm truly disgusted by the delay of the MINI's adaptor!

MINI ipod

BMW seems to have such a backlog for their ipod that MINI decided not to launch until BMW catches up (so they don't have an immediate backlog on the MINI side).

I'm picking up my new MINI tomorrow and when I asked about the ipod setup I was told the parts are on backorder....no estimate of when they will be in.

Me too...guess I'll just have to use the AUX input from my old MINI until the parts are available.

Yup, I confirmed it about 10 minutes after I saw my car for the first time. 700MB of MP3 Glorry, crisp and clear through my standard '05 head unit.

That's close.

You'll notice there were never any MINI ipod ads. BMW paid for all the advertising of the ipod adapter. As a result, the BMW backorder is being filled first. After they fill that, only then will the ipod adapter be released.

I have some feelers out on the armrest. I'll post more on that when I hear back.

Anyone been able to confirm or deny that this does not work with cars with the navigation package? I may be interested in the adapter, but no one seems to know for sure yet the status of getting it to work with the adapter. Please no replies to the effect of "BMW says you can't use it with navigation" - what I'm looking for is whether there is a way to make it work with nav by combining two inputs, etc., as has been done in the past with other inputs.

A PhatBox or Phatnoise system with 20 gig for $800 plus installation seems absolutely insane. Maybe the price will drop to something reasonable.
My new 05 plays mp3 files on a CD, 175 songs. You can even have the songs in file folders and choose between folders. I also have an iPod that I simply play via a local fm station via a $30 adapter from Apple or Radio Shack.

I know a few of you have mentioned that you didn't want to spend the $$$ for an IPod. I found an offer online that will give you a 40gb Photo IPod if you meet the requirements. It's one of these deals where you have to sign up for an offer, then recruit some other people to sign up, too. I've tried this before, but I didn't want to spend money of the offers.

But...

There's a Blockbuster offer with a 14-day free trial. If you sign up for the Blockbuster offer, and cancel before the trial is up, you'll still get credit for the IPod offer.

I figure I'll probably be receiving my IPod in January.

So, think about signing up! I might set up a new e-mail account if I were you, because sometimes you get spam from signing up from this kind of stuff. I haven't been getting junk, but just a heads up!

You're supposed to recruit 10 people... I've almost gotten my 10, little effort.

Monster adapter

I've read good things about the iPod adapter from Monster "iCruze". The ad shows a Mini with a HK system. Link attached. Thinking about getting one of these if there is a continued delay with iPodmini adapter. Anyone seen or heard this Monster version? Is it as good as the reviews say? How is it different from the soon to be released "official mini" version?

iPod and Stuff

iPods are out and you are right they are the same as the BMW ones. Have seen several installed and they go in the glove box just like the MP3. Nothing saying they can't be used with the Navigation (that was Sirius satellite radio) only that they use the same jack on the radio as the 6 CD-Changer so you can only get one of those items installed.

iPod Photo and MINI adapter?

I was thinking of picking up an iPod Photo with that nifty color screen, but i'd like to know if it works with the MINI stock adapter. I figure it's still a low-cost alternative to going for a complete system overhaul with a Pioneer or Alpine head unit. If anyone has any experience with it, let me know!
