Nice!!

It's good to be part of the family! Now I'm wishing that I got the Multifunction Steering Wheel. Do you actually need it or can you just use the radio controls?

This beats the crap out of my 2nd Gen iPod going into the AUX jack (wires and cigarette lighter power). Looks like it's time to trade up to a 3rd Gen iPod.

Not sure how much it's gonna cost. Hopefully, not too much like the Denison ICELINK. I tried the site to check out more info, but it's not working yet.

According to the www.bmwusa.com/ipod.html, $149 plus installation.

You have to dig to find it in that little window that pops up.

Yeah, I checked it again and saw that the site was working already. Anyway, $149 plus installation. What do you guys think?????? Says on the site that installation should be less than an hour.

Damn, that makes it a pretty expensive toy ($500) and I live nowhere near a MINI dealership. I might just continue listening to AM radio for free!

I can't believe that installation is that hard. Buy the part and install yourself. Not sure what you are getting for $149 though.

chances are the installation is similar to the Aux Input - 1. Plug wire into back of radio. 2. Drill hole and mount adaptor.

I just hope both the Aux Input and Ipod Adaptor can be installed at the same time. We've got a couple mp3 players and don't always use the Ipod.

Neat kit, but I'll stick with an upgraded head unit since I really don't listen to music outside the car.

Replaces CD Changer connection

Looks like it replaces the CD Changer's connection. In the compatibility section of iPOD your BMW page (http://www.bmwusa.com/ipod/) it says, "to install the iPOD adapter in vehicles equipped with a CD changer, simply disconnect the CD changer and replace it with the iPOD adapter."

Mp3 player

The new head unit is supposed to play MP3 files off a CD. That means a 700 mb CD will hold approximately 175 songs. And that will be free. I have an iPod, but $200 or so to add the iPod when I can just burn a CD with hours and hours of music seems counterproductive. A PhatBox or Phatnoise system with 20 gig for $800 plus installation seems absolutely insane. Maybe the price will drop to something reasonable.

How about the fact the IPOD still wont put the info up on the head with this solution. I guess I'll save the coin and go with my aux and mount the IPOD close and get all the functions out not just some 5 playlist thing.

Now that I think about it, it's pretty much a Denison ICELINK 1.1, but with the official Apple/BMW approval. Also, it's a little cheaper. Do you guys agree???

It looks like it won't work with Cars with Navigation, Satellite Radio or CD Changer.

$800 Take a look at the kenwood music keg. You can get a 20GB version for about $500. Next years model will do video and do wireless transfer from your wireless network.

I would like an answer to this as well, as I just have the standard steering wheel and I am thinking about this upgrade.

I read this too, and i hope that it's not necessarily correct. Since it plugs in where the cd changer would go, the NAV should't interfere with it. And since the MFSW doesn't have anything to do with the NAV, i don't see where the conflict would be. Maybe someone out there with more technical knowlege could shed some light on this.

I am hoping the above is true. My MINI will have both the Navigation and HK stereo. I pray this setup will work with this adapter. Does anyone know? This could be revolutionary. I could deal with creating 5 mega playlists, makes CD changers look like old 78 rpm records.

changer port

There is no difference between a Boost w or w/o nav. Blitzsafe will tell you this. I have tested it for them in the past. This will work with any mini with a Boost.

What's this talk of a new head unit? A new head unit from MINI? Perhaps in the 05's?

I'd be willing to part with my changer for this because who needs it at that point? But I have the NAV system and I hope there really is no conflict there.

MINI removed from the Apple Site

http://www.apple.com/ipod/bmw/

It was listed there yesterday! Today, it seems like all references of the MINI have been removed.

What's up with that??!!
