Now that would be a smart thing to do, given the interest shown here.

Plus it's an official route, with clearly defined pricing and channel for distribution.

better for all parties (unless you're a Blitzsafe reseller!)

Plus, XM has just signel up MLB for next year, so you can get all games live on XM - so another good reason for many to be investing in XM

Presets

Cooperb,
Thanks for your post about presets. I've got a problem and maybe you can give me some help. I just bought and installed XM Direcrt. It's great but I've only been able to get six presets in one bank to work. I assumed, or maybe hoped, that I'd be able to get multiple banks. I'd appreciate any input regarding the procedure you used to get multiple banks of presets. I get three banks of presets with my FM but not with XM. I have HK..................
Thanks

And you get you're own BASS/TREBLE etc settings stored for XM as well.

So the MINI head-unit is fully featured once the XM Direct box is hooked up to the MINI loom via the BlitzSafe interface.

Chris.
Thanks Chris. Now I'm even more excited. I wish the Bltzsafe were here already!

IS Xm direct the Same as a Sirius Tuner???

Is XM Direct the same as a Sirius Tuner? I have a Kenwood Sirius Tuner. Which is hooked up using The Blitz Safe unit. It connects into the 2004 HK Head unit in the CD Changer Port. I have to change channels via the Kenwood display. I don't know if I can hook the Sirius Tuner directly to the HK headunit. Does anyone know?

Head UNIT?

What head unit is everyone using. I have an 2004 HK unit. I have a Kenwood sirius tuner installed which is using the same Blitz safe adaptor.

I have an additional display that I use to change the channels and view the songs/artist. The HK Head unit is set to CD Changer mode. It reads
CD 1- 99. I am curious how the Head unit is hooked up to the xm direct. I would prefer to be able to change the stations via the steering wheel and eliminate the sirius display unit. PLEASE HELP.

I'm going to asume that teh HK uses the same MINI/BMW head unit shown here

Looking at the display from the left - you have SR1, which means satellite radio bank 1

You then get 1-6 presets in SR1 - using the 1-6 buttons

To get to bank 2, you press the - button directly under where the display reads SAT

That brings up bank SR2 - and you can use a further 6 presets, again on butons 1-6.

You simply hold the preset button in for a few seconds to store the station as usual.

I've only used 2 banks so far, but it works just fine.

may even be a third bank, just haven't looked yet!

Is this the same as the HK head-unit or not?

Chris.

XM and Sirius are two competing sat radio stations, that use different receivers to allow you to listen to their subscription services.

Currently Sirius have 700,000 subscribers, XM have 2,000,000

The Kenwood unit you describe will only receive Sirius, and sounds to be of the sort that uses it's own display to show you channel info etc.

the beauty of the XM Direct + Blitzsafe option, is that the factory MINI unit will display the data for you, and allow you to access the stations etc from the HU or steering wheel controls.

It's a properly integrated solution, rather than a bolt-on.

Does anybody know if this setup would work on an 8/02 build? I was told that I would have to use the radio wave signal setup to hear it through the MINI head unit. On top of that, he said that I was going have to buy that big ugly "thing" that sits on your dash. He didn't suggest any set up like this.

No problem

Didn't you get a MINI/BMW in car manual for the sat system?

What are the dimensions of the blitzsafe and xm tuner? I pulled the cover off today and the amp for the HK takes up a lot of room. I wonder if I would need to tape it to the amp or will it fit to the side of it. Tight!

What options for XM radio are there for use with 2002's? I do have the two connectors in the passenger compartment in the trunk, is it an issue with the head unit in the 2002's being compatiable?

PRW3,
It's not the wires it's your head unit thats not sat ready. There are plenty of head units on ebay from '03-'04.

preset bands

I thought it funny that no instructions for the tuner were included but at least there were install instructions. So I went with it, thinking I'd figure the rest out later.
However, this morn, after reading your question about an instruction booklet (whoops, I gave myself away, didn't I ?) I went to the trash. Digging down to the bottom, of course, I found the big box. At the very bottom, under popcorn filler, I spied something I hadn't seen before. It was a black and white something that said "XMDirect Owners Manual for XM Satalite Radio". I'll be darned!.........
Well, I find myself again thanking you for information and for your time and interest in helping. But, I'm just a little embarassed doiing so this time!!!!!

thanks

A Group-Buy from Blitzsafe would be outstanding. Any idea when this might appear - I'm ready to join in NOW ?!?

This is not the part you need from BlizSafe - the part you need is currently NOT listed on their website The part number I've given in this thread is the correct one.

Call them direct to confirm the part you need. The cheaper boxes they do are for interfacing other items to the MINI and NOT the XM Direct sat box.

Sounds like they're working on a group buy for MINI afetr all the fuss that's been made.

Chris.

No, the SAT options only appear AFTER you've hooked up the XM Direct and BlitzSafe interface to the MINI wiring loom.

Your HU will not show SAT as an option until then, so don't worry.

If you're 04, HK or non-HK, you're ready for XM.

OK, I made an oops... DON'T buy the MINI/AUX DMX V.1 it does not work for Satellite. My display only shows CD 1-99 and I can't change it. I called Blitzsafe and they said it was the wrong one. Now I have to send it back. The tech rep said they are working on the group buy and to watch for it to be posted...

For 2002's, be careful, only the very latest of the MY were compatible with sat radio. I beleive it is the head unit that is the problem. I suppose you could get a unit off ebay or around here where someone replaced theirs.

I'm fairly certain that Classic Mini also sells these things for less than the $300 they used to go for, I can't remember what someone said but even if it is a little more than the dirt-cheapest place, you know you will get the right part from them.

Also, I have the H/K and there is just enough room to squeeze the XM direct box and Blitzsafe adaptor back there. However after having it back there for a few days and hearing a small rattle, I took my side panel off and mounted the xmdirect box to the back of the seat latch anchor so there was no chance of it moving around or vibrating. With the panel off it is much easier to run the antenna wire down from the roof as well.

Install Locations

Tweeter, ran RCA extenstions from the back panel to the front of the passenger side. The Sirius tuner is actually under the carpet int front passeger side. I had the same problem with tuner fitting in with the HK unit.
THe only problem I have is they ordered the wrong Blitzsafe adaptor. Trying to fix that problem now.
