Stever, I got the MINI/AUX DMX V.1, but I didn't get it direct from BlitzSafe. When I called them they said I needed the BMW XMD 101, just like Chris stated in his first posts. The site I got my from said it was compatible with satellite radio, but it is NOT...

Any one knows where to get the BlitzSafe BMW XMD 101 for a reasonable price?

A local dealer here is saying they won’t sell it for under $250.00, package set with tuner.

Is there a complement to the BlitzSafe BMW XMD?

Someone mentioned a group buy, is that going to happen?

Big Blue Ox, Did you get the correct unit yet. I am working on this for a week, and my brain hurts. I had tweeter install it 4 or 5 months ago. They don't even know what I am talking about. I emailed Blitzsafe yesterday and this is what they sent back.

[size=2]"I am not sure what you mean by wrong unit? The part number you listed offers you an audio input in the form of RCA connections. I believe the audiovox unit has rca connections. If you were looking for a control unit, I offer nothing that would control the audiovox tuner. If you would like a unit to control XM thru the factory headunit, check out www.myradiostore.com andlook for the BMW/XMD 101."

I'd be interested in a group buy too, if the price is right. I'll keep checking back to see if/when it comes about.

Agreed price will dictate wether or not to select blitzsafe over sound gate. Currently the soundgate can be had for approx 50 USD, but the head read out is not as neat looking (however if you can rename the channels??) then that would be ideal w Stern on live!

I will wait to see the cost comparison but I really can't see paying more than 100 -130 for this adaptor.

You have to understand that BlitzSafe make a whole load of different adapters.

Some just allow you to plu any audio device into the existing MINI system, like an AUX input. They do NOT control that device from the HU.

Each adapter is specific to the device it's supposed to interface with, hence all the part numbers and options.

We are talking about a specific XM radio, Called the XM Direct, and interfacing it (audio and control) to the 03-04 MINI HU.

For this specific application you need the XMD/BMW 101 Interface.

If you have a different XM radio, you can't expect this module to interface it to the MINI.

Or, if you have a different (non MINI) HU, you can't expect the 101 module to get it to talk to the XM Direct unit.

In this case, you can get interfaces that allow the XM Direct module to talk to Apline, Sony etc etc - again a specific interface for a specific pairing of head-unit and XM receiver module.

Hope that clears things up.

Chris.

Check post 46 in this thread for the Email address of a dealer that will do the BlitzSafe 101 Module for $150.

That plus the XM Direct module from Crutchfield leaves you at $200.

Cooperp;

I couldn’t find the BlitzSafe XMD/BMW 101 on the Enifg web site so I emailed Christine, hopefully they will help me out.
I am surprised that this Monopoly thing has escalated so fast, thought there were laws to prevent price gouging from happening. Wish I got in on the ground floor like you did.

Yes I tend to run on, I ment to say it would be ideal if I could rename the stations for sirius. Then the fact that the info doesnt read out like the blitzsafe would be a moot point.

I was selling it but for some reason I was told yesterday that I cannot
purchase them anymore. I might be able to purchase them next week but at
the moment I cannot get them. I have the entire kit for $279.99

If Blitzsafe keeps it up I'll just move on to the ice-link and go ipod and screw XM.

P.S. can you use xm with an icelink? Oh, and screw Blitzsafe.

Is it just me, or does this start to get really annoying!

If you look at the BlitzSafe range of interfaces for XM, they generally go for $99 or less.

Now we know that the XM Direct receiver is just $49 (or less) from somewhere like Crutchfield.

Let's round the total for the two units up to $150, which is what I paid.

Now somehow in dealer land, there is a price hike from $150 to nearly $300 just for the MINI system.

If you're interfacing the XM Direct to a Sony or Alpine head-unit, you're not paying these prices. You're paying $150 for XM Direct and Interface.

But try to interface the XM Direct to a MINI, and it's $300!!

This is all very very wrong.

We need some competition in the market place to get rid of this price gouging.

Looks like exclusivity clauses are getting in the way of a fair deal for MINI owners.

Very sad

Chris.

I agree!

But, as the dealer in the Albuquerque area told me earlier today, "your lucky you don't have a GM" becasue they are selling the kits for $400.00.
What are we to do?
If anyone knows of a direct replacment - PLEASE post.

I just emailed the manufacturer of the XM Direct box to see if they have plans for a BMW/MINI interface.

They already do their own interfaces for Sony, Pioneer and Kenwood.

And the apparent price fixing must be impacting their sales for XM Direct boxes in the BMW marketplace.

What could be in there, not much for sure. Original retail was about $70.00, so cost would have been $35.00 for the whole saler, cost to make must have been less than $20.00. A schematic would be great.

You needed the Mini/XM v.1 not the Min/AUX v.1

Ok so let me get this straight Blitzsafe is charging us more cause we own mini's **** it is not a flu shot! Why on earth would the price increase overnight???

I say ......well you really don't want to know what I say I can get a lil colorful being a Drill Sergeant!

As stated above I will wait the weekend out see if they offer us a reasonable price for the group buy thing. If not hello Howard Stern and NFL gameday on my new Sirius system powered by SOUNDGATE!

Or maybe just go the iPod route. If Blitzsafe (who will be known as BS) does price gauge us. Let em build 25 plus and watch them sit on the shelf and collect dust.

Nothing against making and honest dollar I understand supply and demand. But I will not pay more than a fair share for and adpt.

Hey Chris, maybe you can provide us with that email address so we can all email the manufacturer also. That way they'll se there's plenty of interest amongst us MINI onwers.

What do you think?

I did my part as well and e-mailed Trek, and in very brief words explained the situation, and asked if they will be making an interface to complement their Universal Tuner box to a Mini Cooper.
Like you and others have said if everyone shows an interest in a new interface module from another source, then perhaps we will benefit from the additional competition.
In defense to BlitzSafe, most likely they are being forced into this situation, so competition will be good for all.
