Wanting to do a mini upgrade
Currently I have a 2014 f56 mini cooper with a 6.5" nav system. I am looking to to add android auto and possibly a 8.8" display if its not out of my budget. The reason I am wanting to do this upgrade is because the native gps maps that come on the car are terrible. I live in California where there is always new areas being built all the time or changing and i am not going to spend a few hundred just for them to spend a few minutes to upgrade the maps. I would really love to use waze.
I have been seeing a lot of different information about adding android auto/carplay to slightly older units. some are 3rd party devices. some say you need to change both the display and the head unit. Others say if you don't already have a touch screen, you cant upgrade to some options.
I am looking for a simple solution for what I am wanting to do. So basically the less i have to buy and take apart the better. If anyone has done a upgrade that would work for me or can point me in the correct direction, i would greatly appreciate it.
