Replace large CCC unit with aftermarket audio?
Long time listener, first time caller here. Thanks for all the info.
I have an R56 Cooper S with what I believe is called CCC radio/navigation/CD player. Something is awry with the sound quality, and I honestly just don't like the interface, so I'd like to install an aftermarket audio unit. I bought and installed the center console kit from Crutchfield that allows me to install the double-DIN unit I've already bought. Unfortunately, it looks like I need to retain the old unit to keep info on the screen in the tachometer, the door chime, etc. (but I don't need the navigation, CD, etc.). I did hours of Googling and reading on here, but it seems like most owners have the smaller (single DIN-sized) unit that they're able to tuck behind the dash or elsewhere. In my case, there's not enough room. I've read up on the creative solutions of co-opting the display for a third-party system, but I can't justify the financial and time cost (plus many of the posts talk about coding, and I have no interest). The CCC unit won't willingly separate into component pieces, which I was hoping to use to minimize the size of integral components.
Does anyone know if I can buy a smaller audio unit and use that (e.g., with a ribbon cable)? I'm guessing it's not compatible with my tach. Otherwise, I'm considering building my own loom to relocate the CCC unit into the rear of the Mini, but that might introduce too much resistance into the circuits, plus ick. Got any other solutions? Thanks in advance!

Just purchased my most memorable vehicle an e92 07 335i I got it knowing the idrive was broken, it simply continues to reboot again and again. I figured I would simply pay another CCC unit off commercial center. While taking a gander at CCC units from that very year some of them have radio channel buttons and some don't, why would that be. Something else I heard is on the off chance that you have premium sound with the L7 amp (which I do) the CCC unit will be unique and wont work. In the event that I really do purchase the right one will I really want a code for sound to work? Recently I really connected another CCC unit off commercial center and the menus worked however it didn't have sound might this at any point be a result of the other vehicle didn't accompany a L7 amp or did it requiring coding? (when I say "CCC unit" I simply mean the radio part not the screen." Is there a superior approach to my issue?
