6.5" Side Door panel speaker install

I've searched up and down on this site to find solutions on installing Alpine Type S 6.5" speakers for the side doors. I've read that 6.5 will fit, but you'll need an adapter or you'll need to make a custom spacer? I've seen pictures of a guy having his 6.5" Polks installed at a Circuit City and they didnt mention anything about a spacer. Is there a difference between component 6.5s and regular 6.5s?? Will the regular 6.5 fit and the component not fit or what? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would think 6.5=6.5; can't see that separating the tweeter would make a difference since the 6.5" is related to the mounting, not the height/internals.

I bought 6.5" adaptors from MikeyTheMini and they worked fine (6.5"=16.5cm). I have also seen pics where people made their own. Maybe the Circuit City install made them too - in theory all it takes is a bit of MDF and some skill ...

Not to sound silly, but if you're doing the installing... Just take the door panel off and see if it fits. I know it sounds funny, but a pro installer who has never done a MINI will do that very same thing. Then you will know if a spacer is needed..

Awesome, thanks for the replies guys. One question though. How long did it take to ship the spacers from Europe? Also, does the order include both right and left sides?

The web site description says "pair" so that would be one for each door

If Mikey has stock, I would think that you should be able to get them in about a week after ordering.

Hi MiniMeCoop, so did you finally fit the Alpine Type-S 6.5 yourself? Any installation info or review of the speakers to share? I am looking at these pair of component speakers too, but just hesitate due to its size, not sure whether it fits or not. Thx.

i installed a set of 6.5 rockford wayback.

anyway you will need a spacer, i make some out of solid wood. the reason for it, is because the height of the 6.5 speaker is tall. if you install with out spacer your speaker will stop the window to be coming down all the way.

Correct - I have a spare set of the NewMiniStuff ones. My 6.5s apparently have a rather narrow mounting diamter requirement and didn't have wide enough hole spacing to fit the adapters. So I'm going to make custom ones from MDF.

$20 for my NewMiniStuff ones, shipped. PM me if you are interested...

If you make your own, here's a quick and easy formula for figuring out the spacer thickness needed for your particular speakers:

The thickness of the spacer need to be the mounting depth of the new speaker minus 1.75 inches.
