carkit installation

I am trying to put a nokia bluetooth car kit into my '05 mcsc. It seems like it should be pretty easy. I had it in another car with no problems. This car kit has it's own speaker, mic, and control. All it needs from the car is constant 12v, ground, and ignition sense.

I grounded the system to the firewall. I took the constant 12v from the horn fuse, and the ignition sense from the lighter plug fuse. I located the fuses from the labels on the fuse door.

The car kit almost works. It goes on, but doesn't go off. I think that means the ignition sense is not right.

Thinking back, I just assumed that the fuses were on the +12v side of the circuit. They could be on the ground side too though.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Are there other better places to get 12V and ignition sense? Is my ground bad?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

You are better off taking the 12v from the radio ignition if you can.

Now the best option is to go to newministuff.com and order the interface kit from Mike (the UK) it is a few bucks but well worth it. There is another thread I started somewhere here (sorry but I am lazy and full of dinner and wine to search tonight) about the Nokia interfaced with the head unit.

Mike's setup is full plug and play and works awesome. Not only is it powered properly but it plays the audio through the car stereo system. OK I am not that lazy... here you go ( it will also show some pics):

Let me know if you have any ???

I'll second that. Definately an easier way to go than trying to splice cables and such...

Thanks. That did it, and it works fine now.

As a side note, I found that the lighter plug fuse is always hot, and the lighter itself is relay switched. This was mentioned in another thread that I found in the Electrical Mods forum. Is that forum new, or did I just miss it before I posted this? Anyway, that thread is:

Installing this car kit was very easy. The newministuff product looks good, and would allow me to hear it through the car speakers. The fuse taps I bought at radio shack were about a buck, and saved me from having to splice any wires. Just tapped two fuses, and used a screw near the box for the grouind. No interior panels had to come out, and nothing had to be removed from the car to do this. I can't imagine the newministuff connector saving any time, other than my floundering finding the right fuse.
