Magellan 700 Permanent Installation
Has anyone figured out or done a permanent installation of a Magellan 700? I wouldn't be without mine but if using it with a weighted RAM mount its too bulky on the dash. I'd like it sitting on the stalk and just remove it when leaving the car but permanently wired in with an external antenna.
Anyone ever thought of that. I did think of getting one of those new Pioneers with the motorized video screen but theres no way I can justify a $2K expenditure when I have a perfectly fine $1K GPS that is portable.

I did something I think is close to what you describe.
I purchased a Panavise mount that fastens on the face of the radio on the right side using the same two screws that hold in the radio. You have to remove the right upright to attach the mount.
The base of the 700 fastens to the mount and you can easily remove the GPS to hide it or use it in another vehicle.

It's not in direct view, but the map is not the most important of a nav sysem, the audible directions are. Whn I need the map, I can glance down and see what I need. I'll pos pics after it's done.

Portable, under 1k, no screen nessessary GPS Nav
Since you have already purchased your system, I thought it might be helpful to you and other forum members to research our companies site and navigation solution for Mini enthusiasts; www.advancednavigation.com/mini We are a sponsor of NAM and we feature the only screen-less gps navigation system which talks to you with a human voice that gives your step by step instructions; street name, freeway signs exactly as you would read them, prepare to turn, and more, as you drive. It will do everything a 2k full featured nav will do and more, for under 1k! Even in it's permanent install configuration, it has portability, is hidden, and does not disturb the ambiance of the Mini cockpit. Try programming any nav system traveling at 70mph on the freeway, then see our downloadable video demo that does exactly that...seeing is believing! Thank you forum members.

Do you have a solution for mounting a Magellan in a MINI? If so, I would like to see it. If not, I think I clearly stated I wasn't in the market to buy ANOTHER GPS. when the Magellan rocks.
Thank you for your time ...

Installed!
Thanks to Morris, I've finally got this thing installed (ignore the light color, the flash was too close).
In case anyone needs to know, the correct part number is Panavise 75146-1002 for 2002-2004. Will also work for 2005 if you remove the cupholder (obviously I didn't have to). The thing is totally portable, It just unhooks from the cradle and off to my other car. Plugs into the cigarette lighter and the external antenna is hidden and exits the boot up next to my XM antenna. Very cool.
There is no clearance issues with the glove box. If you want to open the CD draw you do have to remove the Magellan.
Thanks MORRIS!
