Ps2 On Board!
Hey guys,
I just got my Alpine TME-M710 last night and i'm dying to get my car back from the shop to start the install....
I'm just stuck on one thing....The power converter. How many watts will be just enough to power a PS2 and wont drain the battery like crazy. Where is the best place to hook the converter up to? Directly to the positive and negative conections on the battery? I know I will probably have to keep the car running if I want to play PS2 or watch a movie for an extended period of time, but how long can I keep the converter on for demonstrations at shows and such?
Thx,
Rick
Oh yeah, heres a pic of the new screen.

Have you decided where you're going to mount the monitor and PS2?
Oh, and to answer your question, a 140 watt ought to run that ps2 just fine. You can pick one up for around 12-20 dollars. But I would consider running a 10 gauge wire to the Positive terminal, and fusing it with a 30 amp fuse. Another thing I would do would be replace the on/off switch and install a 12 vdc relay, and run the relay on the cigarette lighter, so that you don't run down the battery when the Mini is off. Just some idea's thrown at you....
Good Luck!

Well, the monitor will be going under the toggles, i'm working on fabbing up a mount with the rental I have till the end of the week (nothing new for me, I just cant break anything in this car lol )
the ps2 will go in the glove box along with the RF controllers i have heard about. I'm going to tuck the power converter behind the glovebox so i dont have to see it at all. maybey install another fan back there. I'm going to yank the cig lighter now anyways (the monitor is going to cover the uselessholders, i mean cupholders, and use a plastic plug to cover the cig lighter hole....maybey add one in the parcel tray, i never use it anyways)
a relay instead of a switch would be a good idea, i think i'm going to do that!
i'll start posting pics as the project continues.......

Well, I have a very small, compact 70 watt /115v output converter I would like to use if I can. I hooked it up in the car and it turns on the ps2 without a problem and it has a low battery shutdown protector. I'm only powering a PS2 with it, nothing else. the monitor will be hardwired and will have a switch on it........What do you think?

As for power consumption and cooling you can look here
http://www.answerbag.com/q_view.php/18195
They used a USB fan to cool the playstation 2, and it says that the slimline only consumes 45 Watts, so you should be good to go.

There is a single screw in the back of the "pocket" under the switches. I used that to mount my Sirius receiver. However, since you plan on making the "cupholders" unusable, you might want to attach the base of the mount on the bottom of that little "pocket". I removed the rubber cover and put it in a closet for later when I reverse the installation. Good luck!
