Navigation & Audio Subs
#1
I was thinking about throwing 2 8" subs in the trunk, that or one 10". I think this would work well if you get a subs that requires a very little box. The power would be right in the area you would need too. I had 2 12" in my old car that ran at 250 watts, and that was loud as hell.

CooperSpeed I see you are pretty new here: Welcome to MCO!
I couldn't help but laugh when I read your username! I know it's not nice of me... but with the capitalization you used, and all the different takes on Cooper S that we see here, I first read it to say "Cooper S peed," instead of "Cooper Speed."
As for the sound setup, well I'm a neophyte in that arena. There are certainly some others here that would have more insightful comments for you.
Again, welcome and enjoy!

I was planning to put a Kicker solo baric L7S12? 12" sub. The recommended dimensions of the box would have fitted but the back seats slope back slightly so it would have been too much of a squeeze. I presume the ideal box size would be the same for any 12" sub? I also thought of having 2x 8" subs in the same box, probably Kicker again, as they are the best in my personal experience. Would two 8" subs have the same effect as one 12" sub??

Every single speaker out there has seperate enclosure needs. No two speakers will require the same enclosure. I've got a 10" TS-W254DVC Pioneer sub that technically requires a Sealed Box Volume (cu ft) of 0.72 - 0.88 or a
Ported Box Volume (cu ft) of 0.81 - 0.99 ....yet I've tuned the enclosure size to around 0.45-0.55 as it seems to harmonically work best with this speaker in the MINIs small interior.

Does it deliver a bass to vibrate the rear view mirror, because that is the kind of bass i am after? I have been told that a 10" sub would do this as its a smaller car than my previous cars. I was also told that porting the box is only good if i plan to compete as they have to be tuned to work with certain frequencies etc etc. What have you got running the sub?? by the way, i love the look of the sub. beats the boring old square boxes.

Oh my yes it does hit hard enough to rattle most everything...rearview mirrors, seats, eyeballs in their sockets....uhm, I even had a girl say she was "erotically pleased" while in the back seat.
My personal goal with this enclosure was to have it be able to reflect off the back hatch, thereby forcing the sound waves forward in the car. It worked!

Thanks for analyzing my name . On the Crutchfield site they offer subs which can theoretically be enclosed in a .1 cubic foot box. Thats kinda tiny. And unless you re running mega power to your speakers, this is more than effective for low-end oommph. A small box like that would also leave you more room that single 10" you have, or a Kicker Solo-Baric.
