Anyone with Audiobahn HU?

I'm looking at the newer Audiobahn headunits, primarily because the ipod link to their system is just a $20 cable. So for around $220 I could get a new headunit with direct Ipod control, versus $200 for the Dension IcelinkPlus, which at best appears to be hit or miss.

So anyone have experience with these headunits by Audiobahn?

No MFSW control

The more expensive headunits have this, but the one I was referring to does not.

Check out this http://www.cardomain.com/item/ABNA1250N for more infor on what I'm looking at.

I know have the Alpine 9833 in my other car with the KCA420 Ipod link and it's amazing. It will be hard to give up multi-line Ipod information if I went with the Icelink. The big advantage of this system is a single cable, instead of hiding the a seperate box (like the KcA420).

Downside, no MFSW control, which actually I could live without. With a big rotary **** on the aftermarket stuff, it's quick and easy to turn down the volume without looking.

Hope someone has experience with this company, I'm interested.

The Audiobahn appears to have a remote control. MikeyTheMini (newministuff.com) sells a universal adapter to enable MFSW operation for head units that have IR remote. The additional cost might push you over your budget though.

The budget part I'm not concerned with...I also have to buy an HK enabler, so this is going to quite the install...but it's hard for to to shell out $200 for the IceLink for a single line system, that a lot of users find very problematic.

I just want to know if anyone's had experience with the Audiobahn HU, so I'm not buying some total piece of junk.

But if I did decide to buy another Alpine (which I love) and use the KCA-420, where are people hiding that box in their Minis? (sorry, new question now).

Audiobahn is no piece of sheit d00d, its jus not that popular in the mainstream its good stuff cant go wrong w/it. a lot of my EURO homies use it ton's,& swear by it.
but u should check it out on Consumer type files like 'Consumer reports' and such.

i considered upgrading to an aftermarket alpine on my HK setup. after researching it and looking at how much it sould change my setup, it just isnt worth it. the factory Alpine HU does the job and does it very well.

the only part of the HK setup i would consider upgrading are the speakers, which the fronts seem to be a bit weak, but the factory setup seems pretty good for what it is, no need to upgrade in my book.

i cant find any that will go as low frequencsy wise as the factory ones will go.

since the factory fronts are a kind of low, i need to find something that will go that low, but still run up high to balance the system out a bit more.

so far, i'm looking at infinitys only, but time will tell to see what i decied to do.

i see! so if u locate a good set let me know cuz i do like the stock set-up except for the weak bass or lo's,

**by the way does ur system not allow u to turn it way up mine stays at a certain low volume (well "lo" for me)

don't think it's as easy with the speakers, the ohm on the factory speakers is very tough to match for aftermarket stuff.

i dont see why not, its a minimum 30 watt constant power, thats about what the front channel gets, so it should be borderline.

they are 4 ohm tho. factory speakers are 2 ohm....i'm not too sure about that...

never really paid attention to the ohms and i forgot what they do since i havent messed around w/audio since i got into racin' but i did have some bazookas bak when i use to attend bass out's still have some kickers now 10's of course, only the best for tight bass....
******BTW did u c my post askin' question on volume level....why is it set so lo' mayb so the lifetyme warranty can live on w/out a qlitch and not have to replace the speaker's

ive found that it really depends on the song,

some songs will go really loud while some i cant get enuf sound out of the system, id be willing ot bet is a failsafe for the factory setup, and, as far as i know, cannot be bypassed.

if i had to buy again, i would simply get a standard stereo and do the complete setup myself, its too easy with standard equip, this HK setup is a joke.

totally agree(HK) what a let down but w/a few upgrades it should be good 2go!

plus i was tryin' to retain a better trade in/re-sell value, but lookin' at it now i would jus sell it on the outside!!

well, i'm gona test the system with 6.5 inch infinity 3 ways first, see if i even need the 6 inch subs. i'll let you know what happens as soon as i get the adapter rings in from mark, then i will hook up my new speakers and give it a test.
