Navigation & Audio Bluetooth Hands Free

Bluetooth Hands Free
I just fitted the Advanced Navigation IControl Bluetooth kit to my 2004 MCS. I located the speaker in between the seats over the rear cupholder and the microphone on the LHS A pillar. I attached the control unit to the inside of the drop down knee bolster panel and put the control pad on the LHS of the mirror control plinth where it's in easy reach.
I am very please with the system. The voice prompts are very clear and I like the onboard phonebook where you can store numbers. Holding the on button for 2 seconds takes you to the voice activated feature of your cell phone (if yours has one - mine is a Razr which does, but I prefer the onboard).
I did order the MINI specific wiring harness but after several unsuccessful attempts at an installation (the front RHS speakers did not emit any sound when the harness was connected) and calls to their tech support I found out that their kit only works with the H-K system. I sent it back for a refund and used their generic harness. I did manage to hook up the Radio Mute wire to the appropriate socket on the MINI radio connector by modifying a Radio Shack crimp connector. The feature works great. When I press the phone button on the control pad the radio mutes and shows "PHONE" on the display panel of the head unit.
Apart from the hiccup with the MINI harness I am well pleased. Having said that the $1:50 I spent at Radio Shack and the five minutes online looking for the instructions for the MINI Bluetooth kit to see which wires went where saved me $29.95.
For $299 and free shipping it’s a much better kit than the factory one at over $400. The control pad is really nice. I can’t compare the sound quality but so far I’m well pleased.
