I wish I could go to the Dragon, but I have to go to Vegas so I geuss AMVIV it is.
I like my music loud at times myself. 31 isn't old it's just that you must choose what you do more maturely, but hey don't let society decide who or how you're going to live. Hell at 46 some say I'm too old to drive around in a lowered Mini. Huh!! Screw'um.
You don't stop playing, because you're getting old.
You get old, because you stopped playing.

Here's my install on my 2002 (Just a Cooper). Did it myself and it's not as nice as alot of the other ones here but it does the job.
2 - 10 inch Kicker Competition subs.
1 - Sealed Bass Worx box
1 - 900 Watt Dual Channel Rockford Fosgate Amp
1 - Audio Bahn 1 Farad Capacitor
1 - Pioneer Preimer Deck
1 - Stiletto 2 Satelite Radio w/ Vehicle kit.
All the equipment was out of my old car which the mini replaced. So it's a bit dated but has been reliable.

This is my setup for now. I'm on the way of purchasing another sledgehammer box. They can fit if i stand them up next to each other lol. It's kind of messy though, i haven't cleaned my car for a while.
i got 145.4db on this setup. MTX 15' 9500, Clarion DPX11551, Epicenter, and harmon/kardon speakers for now. I barely use the epicenter though. it's not really needed.

This kind of setup is possible for subs because the frequencies are so low that the sound isn't going to be affected by having to pass around the magnet/basket structure. You couldn't use this arrangement with a midrange or a tweeter, though - the magnet/basket/frame would bounce the sound all around and you'd have problems with phase interference.
Mounting the speakers outside of the enclosure doesn't change the requirements for the enclosure volume, so if you don't have room in your car to fit two 15"s inside a conventional enclosure, mounting them outside the enclosure isn't going to help you out. (Technically, the boxes could be a *little* smaller because the magnet/basket/frame won't be taking up airspace inside the box, but it's not going to be a huge difference, and the magnet/basket/frame would still be taking up space outside the box.)

How much does the box and speaker cost? Where'd you get it from? And do you know how much db rating these things have? Some people said they are louder than 2 15s lol.

I'm pretty sure the 13w1 is not that loud at 200rms.
JL does make some crazy subs, their w7 line is great!
I've seen a single 10w7 powdered by around 1000rms hit 147 dB... haha pretty impressive

I'll let maxmini chime in with specifics, but in general it doesn't matter whether a sub is inside the enclosure or outside of it. A subwoofer just works by pressurizing/depressurizing the air inside the cabin, and the back side of the speaker cone will do that just as well as the front side. Locating the subs outside of the box won't make them louder or better-sounding.

As to how they sound the one word I always heard was " clean " . There were no muffled bumps and thumps and they can handle 600 watts a piece which was more that I had power wise. The TDK line was known for being one of the few speakers that could compete and win both SPL and sound quality competitions . I was very happy with the sound even though I rarely listened to it as I preferred the sound of the motor and still do . The new setup does a great job and for the little I actually use it I really appreciate the lighter weight and less noticeable install. That whole rear end of the car is sitting in the garage gathering dust. One of these days I'll get around to selling it LOL

Hey. I just realized today when i looked at my amp, i'm running it @ 10hz, Lol.
I have a question. Is my amp able to run at 1ohm? to power Two 15 Sledgehammers?
Is onlinecarstereo.com a good site to buy from? i see that they have the enclosure i'm looking for, the 9500 15' Sledgehammer.
