Speaker Sizes?

Hi everyone,

My MINI will be arriving in about 2 weeks, and as soon as it does I want to swap the sound system. I'm going to go into the auto sound shop tomorrow and tell them everything that I want, so that they can make sure they have it all in stock by the time I get the MINI. So, can someone who has replaced the speakers confirm that these are the speaker sizes:

Front components - 1" and 5 1/4"
Rear - 6" x 9"

Thanks!

You are correct about all of the sizes you listed except for the tweeters. I have read on some other threads that some manufacturer's versions of 1" tweeters are too big to fit in the stock cut-outs of the doors. To be safe, I suggest going with a 3/4" tweeter.

Others on NAM may have different info than I, but I would hate to see you spend all that money on speakers and it not fit.

By the way, you can purchase speaker adaptor rings for the 5 1/4's up front. With the adaptor rings you can put 6 1/2's while still maintaining the stock appearance. You can get the adaptor rings from your local install shop, Crutchfield.com, or Mikey the Mini.

Motor on!

I took a look at the adaptor rings on NewMiniStuff... Looks like they would make the speaker stick out of the door further. I'll talk to the guy at the auto sound shop to see if there is a significant difference between 5 1/4" and 6 1/2" speakers (any opinions?). As for the tweeters, I guess I'll just have to wait and see... I'm probably going to get Infinity speakers, and they only make 1" tweeters.

Make sure you Dynamat the entire car when you have it all apart, that alone makes a world of difference.

I only replaced my fronts and rears (left tweeters alone) and the sound is a whole different experience. With the new speakers it sounds like I have subs in the rear...nice change for $200

Are you using the stock head unit, and which speakers did you get? I heard that very efficient speakers have to be selected for the stock HU because of its low power.

I have 6 1/2 Infinitys in my car up front now.

no fit problems whatsoever.

you can cut the grille out of the handle surround/tweeter cover and flush mount the tweeter into the face of the door. thats what i plan on doing as soon as i can afford the Infinity compnents i want.

Did you add an amp to get the speakers to sound good? What model of speakers did you install?
