You can get XM installed. I think the unit is actually officially "Sirius ready" and can be used with the optional Sirius tuner and antenna. My MA told me the dealer could install either one for me and the XM was $100 less. I have also drivien a MINI that Zipcar uses here in DC with XM installed that uses the factory HU. When you push the button on the stereo it says "Sirius" but is actually XM and it displays the XM channel names and numbers.

I've got an XM direct & Blitzsafe for my MCS. Haven't installed it yet though. Seems to be a relatively easy hook up. Darned near plug & play.

But you can connect an XM tuner to a MINI HU and control it from the HU, you just need to also get an XM Direct box to go along with it...

Here's what I got. Install took all of 20 minutes tops and anyone can do it. Works great too.
