Navi update 27.1

As posted on my blog http://mini.mdsbrain.com:

It seems like I just wrote the write up on V27 but the programmers for BMW have come out with a new version for their Navigation. 27.1 promises to cure some problems caused by v27. Remember this update only works on the MK IV Nav system (only systems which use map DVDs).
The update seems to fix is a issue with Satellite acquisition. Satellite connection is much faster and more reliable.
This update includes changes that occured in v27 which you can read about here.

I will go over the install breifly. For more detailed instructions see my V27 update.

1. Download and burn CD image.
2. Turn car key to position 2.
3. Pop out Navigation DVD.
4. Pop in Update CD and follow on screen instructions.
5. Pop in Navigation DVD and enjoy.
Big thanks goes out to X5World.com for their members keeping up on the newest Nav updates so I can bring them here.

Using both RAR and PkZip, I am getting messages that the download file for 27.1 is corrupt. Can you check this ??

Thanks -

Bill

ps - I went to the source you got it from and retrieved the complete files so there may be something wrong with your archive.

Strange - I downloaded it three times and used WinZIP and WinRAR but kept getting errors. I went to the source for it he mentions -

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9X481J1K

and did a download that installed OK. I think the problem was that I didn't get the full file download and suspect that it was either a slow connection that interrupted early or I wasn't patient enough in firing it up - the downloaded file is around 20 meg instead of the correct 172.8 meg. Probably my bad.

Thanks - I DID get the download from your site to work. I think that I was getting a "creeping" download that was taking forever and didn't notice that it wasn't done - and then had it blow up when I executed it (of course).

I followed your instructions for the install and it worked great. Thanks !!!

I will have more patience next time !!

Worked like a charm in my '06 MCS. Aside from the aforementioned satellite acquision improvement, are there any other differences between 27.0 and this new 27.1?

I use a nice piece of sofware to burn images and it's freeware. http://www.imgburn.com worked fine for my 27.1 update. also allows as slow as 1x burning if you like. I used 4x.

Strange how my perspective view does not work. I have the 2006-2 data DVD and have enabled it in the settings.

Thanks MDSBRAIN,
Had to resume the d/l several times from your link, but it was intact and I had no issues burning it with Alcohol 120%.

Works great with 2006-2 map update in perspective mode.

Cheers!

When I unpack I end up with two files - one NAV_SW.mdf @ 295k Kb and one NAV_SW.mds @ 1Kb. Is that right? Previously I got a whole set of files, folders etc.

That is correct. mds/mdf is a file format for CD images. The burned CD will have the set of files and folders. If you already have CD burning software, see if it supports .mds/.mdf image files. If it does, it will know how to write the CD. If it doesn't, you can install and run a free trial of Alcohol 120% from http://trial.alcohol-soft.com/en/download_120.php

Thanks for the info, rkw!
Can I assume the above file is the non-British-voice-hack version? Any hacked versions out there, or do I need to burn it to CD, copy back to hard drive, then hack it? Would like faster acquisition, but can't lose my Brit voice!

It is the original non-hacked version. I don't know all the details about language selection for the various versions of the Nav unit. In the newer units (certainly DVD based but I don't know starting from which builds), you simply load the firmware, and 3 languages get loaded. In my MINI (8/2005 build), it loads USA, GB, and Spanish, and I can then open the settings menu and select the language I want to use. In older Nav units, only USA language is loaded and you would have to hack in the British voice in its place.

06MCSC Nav turn points off by 50' to 75'

Took our Mini to the dealership to ajust the Nav. it's off by 50' to 75' on the turns. They said it was normal. We have a Chrysler with Nav and it's right on.
Anyone having this problem?

I have the same problem. I think its just part of the Nav. I've gotten used to glancing at the screen once in a while to see exactly where the turns are.

The v27.1 CD can be found in ISO format here

The v27.1 CD can be found in ISO format here

From http://www.x5world.com/164187-post66.html

Dead link updated to http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9X481J1K which works as of July 22.

Edit -- My bad: this link works, but it points to a .zip file containing .mdf/.mds images, that require the program "Alcohol 120%". I don't have a link for an ISO.
