Navigation & Audio INFINITY BASSLINK
#1
Today I stopped at a local stereo shop and talked to the techs. They reccomended an Infinity BassLink. It is sub that is in its own enclosure. It has two 10's back to back (one active, one passive?). with an amplifier built into it. They have a BMW adapter that will allow it to plug into the stock HK harness ( high pass? Whatever the apprporiate name for the speaker level outputs are). It will not interfere with the Hk amp at all or change the ohm load to the speakers. It looks cool has adjustable gains and frequency ranges. They want $289 for it. I have never seen one before and have no idea about it's performance. Do any of you "stereo experts" out there have any experience with this or this type of unit?

2 10s is a good setup - my friend has that in his WRX but it takes up the entire trunk. You didn't buy the MINI for storage space - fill that boot with some sound, brah! I don't have any idea how good a deal it is though, but having used Infinity products before I can vouch for their quality.

this thing is only about 8 inches wide and maybe 14 square and can be mounted horiz or vert. It could even be left loose I suppose. What do you think of the whole add a sub and turn down the head units bass some to cause less of a draw on the stock HK amp so that there may be a little more power available to crisp up the higher end.

I looked into the bass link. It's nice better than a bazooka, way better than a bazooka, but not near as nice or as small as having a a custom box built with a good 10" sub running at a a couple hundred watts of power. For $289 it can't be beat. The only draw back is the low bass punch is not as thick as I would like. I have not heard it in a MINI tho so who knows maybe it's perfect.

Thanks Ubolt I just found them onlie for $194. I will use this to pry on my local stereo shop a little. The other thing that seemed interesting to me about the BassLink is that it has slots for up to four channel inputs so that it will get all the bass lines. I think I will have it. I wonder if anyone has found direct replacement speakers for the Hk seperates in the doors. Maybe a higher quality tweeter would be crisper.

if you check ebay you will find these things going for super cheap! arounf $165 new. I've heard one of these before and wasn't really impressed. if you are looking for some good bass go with a bazooka tube, or get one 10inch jl w3v2 sub and make your own/buy/pay someone else to make you a box....it will sound better and all you will need to add is an amp....but it would cost more than the infinity. hope i helped you with your decision!

Hey there....
I knew that I would find a thread on this topic. I went to Circuit City today and almost had them install this in my cooper (san HK) until I found out that they wanted about $500 with installation and RCAs. Ouch. So I thought I would come to MCO and find out what I exactally needed and have someone do it for me, while I buy the parts seperately. So here's my question...
What do I need to install this in my cooper? Does the OEM Head unit have pre-outs? Which side of the vehicle are the wires ran down? Do I have to install the brackets in plywood, or can it go right into the boot? Any hints/warnings?
Thanks!

Okay. Finally got my MINI, and have the HK stereo, and this extra basslink sitting around. Does such an adapter really exist? I don't want to mess with installing it unless (1) I can do it on a sort of plug-and-play basis, and (2) it's going to highpass the signal into the HK amp. In other words, I want to cut all the low end out of what goes to the HK speakers. They're too boomy and the sub will do better. Any thoughts / advice out there?
