Navigation & Audio Navigation...
#1
I visited a local car audio store and I asked how much it would be to install a Pioneer navigation system I bought. The first thing they asked me was, "Do you have a Harmon Kardon system?" I said yes and they said "UGLY" like it was the worst sound system ever. She told me in order to install it. I would have to rewire everything, probably get a new sound system.
Is anyone familiar with this? or is she just trying to get more money out of my pockets?

Why replcace the HK? It's one of the best systems that I have heard!
I know in BMW's the HK does not seem to sound or perform as crisp as in the MINI. I'd say that he just want's more work to do. You are replaceing just the "head unit" and leave everything else.
(obvious question) Why did you not get the NAV system with the HK?

I didn't get it since, they only had the CD versions instead of DVD. The dealership told me their system was going ot be outdated. Plus, I want to have a DVD player in my car. I picked up the April issue of Eurotuner and I saw them put a Pioneer nav systed which looked real cool. It has voice command also.
The thing the lady told me was that when the engine is loud in the Mini, you can hear it through the speakers, or something like that. Is this true?

Only if you have a bad ground. Unless the mic will pick up engine noise, but then why would it go through speakers? I think she is asking you to bend over. Shop around.

h/ks are pretty slick, they may actually have some type of wiring that prohibits the installation of anything by retards (no offense to any impaired people out there). I know my mom had to go to the dealership for a CD changer because the local shops wanted to install one of those short range FM jobs (you know the type) even though her stereo is capable of handling a CD changer. Could be something like that... the people you're asking aren't really up to the job.
