Mozza - There are many of us on here from other countries (myself included). It's nice to have a multi-cultural MINI community, which sometimes is influenced by from where we originate.

Maximoose!!! Dude!!! Where you been?? I haven't seen you on the forums in a dog's age!! Hope you're doing well.

As far as twisties, we have plenty of them in Connecticut. If you are ever up this way give me a shout - PM me - and I'll try and meet up with you, and potentially have others come along for the ride. The problem with Connecticut is this (and you can gather what the problem is just from this statement alone); it originated speed limits in the US. Our state enforces its laws waaaay waaaay above where they should be - just take a look at what happened during the Pepe's Pizza Meet - and you'll see (Not going to go through the particulars, just pointing it out as an example)...and that was by a police unit of a city that has just recently, since acquiring a new mayor, has been really enforcing its laws. Oh well, we can do the twisties but we have to keep in mind the law enforcement are out there. I don't mind - I have the Escort X50 - keeps me out of trouble..

Also, the problem with having events at a school (e.g. The Splash) even triplicates the trouble that we can get into if we were to bring liquid "legal" items that influence our judgment, reasoning, and overall, our brain. We want to bring the liquid, but around the Connecticut (especially New Canaan area) the matter worsens because of how strict New Canaan can be. I sound like a broken record, but I'm concerned - and the only other choice we have, again, is to take the party to a park or something that allows the liquid. There are some of those, but why even do we have to do that? If I am not mistaken, Calf Pasture in Norwalk allows alcohol, but I believe that if you don't have a beach sticker, you cannot get in without paying entry.

With the above paragraph, I hope that we can have a few beers "somewhere" without having to sneak - I feel like a teenager again. Are we getting permits for the Splash?

Again, nothing against anyone, because it really is being coordinated by one person, but these are things to consider when putting on an event.

The Pepe's Pizza event allowed beer since they served it.

...and Dopamine, regarding motoring|underground, it has its share of politics too.. hardcore..

Primarily the fact that they're too narrow but also the fact that cars are so bloody expensive you have to be wealthy to be able to afford any sort of decent performance machine. I really can't wait to get my JCW and no doubt you and I will run into one another at some point. By the way I was looking at photos of the MiniQ, who's the guy with the 'DIET SUV' plate?

hello all!
Just wanted to let all my MINY friends that I will be out of commission all this summer - just had surgery for a shredded achilles tendon and will be in a cast and on crutches for the next 3 months! All I kept asking the surgeon was WHEN CAN I DRIVE? Esmie is safe and sound in Scarsdale and my pops is DYING to drive her! He loves that little go cart and he's 6'2". So I'm bed bound and BORDED, so please, please, please, keep the posts and pics coming - I'm counting on my MINY friends to keep my spirits up and left foot clutching! Hope to see you all in the fall when I get to drive again!

Sorry to hear that you will be out of commission! Are you physically located in Scarsdale as well?

Sounds painful and hope for the best of a speedy recovery for you!

Your father is 6'2"? He can fit in a MINI!

That's the problem with standard/manual transmission motor vehicles - you need your left foot to shift gears! I guess that's why they invented paddle shifting? Do they have a paddle shift MINI out yet?

There are some big runs in works for the summer, so if you feel up to it I'd be able to pick you up and you come along for the ride... I hope all is well for a quick recovery

For real? all the CVT trannys since 2002, or at least on the S models have paddle shifters and all R56 models with the auto tranny have paddle shifters..

The CVT non-S does not have paddle shifters, at least the 2006 model; at least the loaner that I got from MofFC - perhaps it's an option on non-S?

none of the CVT MC's have paddle shifters ... in the US anyway.
down in Oz and I think Canada they did.

oh yeah ... we need to resurrect the Manhattan Sunrise Run ... some of us veterans could make this happen.

also ... why is this thread in the General Mini Talk rather than the Northeast section?

Manhattan Sunrise Run...see you at Grant's Tomb at 5AM I made one of those runs-the one that was in the Japanese MINI magazine. Maybe we can get another Sunrise run this fall.
Going to go this Sunday to see the car show up in Greenwich:

Hope to see some fellow MINI enthusiasts up there.

Good call on the sunrise run. If anyone feels that they can put it together, please feel free to use this thread in doing so. I'm still working on the 5 Boroughs Run which is proving to be rather difficult. The timing with traffic is always different. A large group is obviously going to get split several times so I'm trying to put "re-grouping" spots in at least each of the boroughs... etc blah blah

This thread is in General Mini Talk because I was new to forums in general when I started it and didn't know too much about placement... If anyone knows a moderator that can move it, let them know..

Request submitted ...and fulfilled!

Basically I was told the following:

If/when we want to form a group/club just click on the "Add your club" button in the main menu block, check the option for hosting, and we will get set up a club forum and event calendar for the club. we just need to have a few users listed as coordinators for the group.

I think Renata mentioned something about doing this run a while back and someone tried to contact Bud about it. Would definitely be fun to do it again!

Just took my daughter to one of the lakes at Harriman State Park and then to Bear Mountain to hit the merry-go-round. Getting there was a blast for me, but not my little girl. She kept complaining that the roads were "too bumpy AND curvy".

Who needs a dragon in North Carolina when we have Bear Mountain right here in our own back yard?

And who needs Merry Go Rounds when you have those two traffic circles at the top of the Palisades Parkway near the Bear Mountain entrance?

It's really a short drive to Bear Mountain, and Wednesday nights are an ideal time to visit because they have a huge "cruise" night. On good weather nights there are upwards of 300+ cars. Lots of American metal of course, but it's not uncommon to find classic Mercedes, Bimmers, Lotus, Italians, and a classic Mini or two most nights. Parking on the lawn is for members of the car club that sponsors it, but I think a British Invasion of the general parking lot some Wed night would be cool.

Getting there is easy - take the GW bridge to NJ and then stay on the Palisades Parkway north until you get to the round-a-bout (it's a British thing) and head toward the Bear Mountain bridge. Take the entrance to the park on the right and you will wind up, down, in, and out of the twisties around the mountain until you end up at the Eastern entrance to the park where the car show is.

NYC area events

Will anyone here be going to Prestige's "Mini Takes the States" thing on the 19th? (in MahWah, NJ). I'm hoping to meet some active Mini owners to decide whether I take the plunge on a Mini, and local community is a big thing for me (see my post in the NAM introduction forum).

It appears there are strong Mini communities in southern NJ, out on Long Island, and up in CT, but those are all pretty far from Rockland county, NY. I'm excited to see there might be a club forming for the NYC area - something that would much more accessible for the "west of the Hudson" folks.

Lancaster PA Tour planning

Well if anyone is interested and would like to add any suggestions or comment we are planning on a PA tour to Lancaster County in June or July. Everyone is welcome! We could meet somewhere close to NYC on the NJ side-any ideas?

http://usminiclub.us/index.php?topic...icseen#msg8554

How about it Paul(TurboMini) want to make this a joint event?
