I'd be coming up from Philly so Sat mid morning or anytime thereafter would work fine.

I might be interested... 2011 Factory JCW... but I would need to know dates...I would do during the week but need to take off from work.... also can Jan's tune be removable onto a AP unit like Alta's? So I can take it out when I go to the Dealer? how much all together?

Thanks

As far as I know the 2011+ cars can only be bench flashed so no you can not swap back to stock with any flash tool yet not even the AP. You might want to contact Jan about the tune, not sure he will have the equipment to bench flash with him or if enough interest he might bring it.

While true for the S, the 11 jcw is still n14, not the new n18, so yes it can be tuned via tool and yes it can be reverted back to stock for dealer trips. It wont be the access port though

That is correct. $800 for the tune and tool and it will work on the JCW cars. Just add the $100 for the dyno time and you are set.

PS. If you decide to get the tool, you might as well get it now. It will go out by mail and once you get it, hook it to your car. After you download your original file, email it to RMW, he will get you pretty close with a tune right away. The dyno will get you all the way there, but there will be a huge jump right away.

Trip To Norwich, CT. flash tool and dyno tune

HRM,

Please add me as a definite to head up to Norwich and have my Mini tuned.

I have been in constant touch with Jan until I became aware of this thread.

Driving a 2011 JCW with only a couple of brake and suspension tweaks to date
and I am too old to "floor it" but still "guys just wanna have fun."

Put me down as a definite as well. I'd prefer during the week early if possible. I have a 2006 R53 k&n cai, invidia catback, craven 15% pulley, and sprint booster. Do I need to bring anything other than my car? Any dates yet?

You don't have to bring anything but your car and cash, and you will have some extra cash soon to offset the cost of your tune once you sell the sprint booster.

Why does he have to sell the booster? I beleive many still run the booster after a tune.

The tune will change the throttle response correctly, with more power as opposed to just sending a different pedal position value to the ECU so you think the car is better.

I didn't say he had to sell it, though I don't know if Jan will want to tune a car with it on. I am suggesting is has no value once it is tuned.

My advice to those thinking of buying one, is to just step on the pedal further and you have instant and free booster so you can save your money for a tune.

This isn't the place for a sprint booster discussion though, so I will dig up a thread.
Post here if you want to discuss it.

Thnx for the constant feedback, HRM. I'm so excited about this tune.

If he doesn't make it out to Rochester, then I will have to make a trip out to CT to have the bugs worked out on my tune. R53, prefer the weekend. Thanks.

A. Yes, the dates are all set, but I am keeping them secret.

B. No. There are no updates, but when there is one, I will post it here.

So how about an R50 tune? I think Jan has done some, correct? I have installed the Cooper JCW tuning kit on my car, along with the JCW sound kit (intake and exhuast, no tune). Stock cam and stock JCW porting. My local dealer quoted me "up to" $260.00 to flash the stock Cooper JCW tune. But I'm thinking I might gain more with a custom tune. And with this event close by, it would be convenient, to say the least.

A JCW tune is not a good match for your car. I am pretty sure you will be able to get it tuned properly. I will keep you posted as I find more info out.

Thanks for the reply. I know there are some good R50 tuning threads here. I'm almost positive that RMW was mentioned in good light. I'll review them, and look forward to further info from you.

Edit: I found one of the threads I was thinking of: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ne-equals.html In post 45, Jan quotes the same $350 that he is charging for this year's R53 tune. People are citing as much of an increase from just his tune as JCW claims for the entire R50 tuning kit (I have the 126hp kit). So this might work out really well for me.

Hi HRM & Mini'sts,

I know this is going to sound weird, but I have had my mini for almost 3yrs or so, and I am just starting to find out about Mods and upgrades. My MCs R53 came stocked with everything I was looking for...so I never looked into anything.
My question is "What is a Tune", and how do I get in? I was also looking at getting a 15% Pulley installed.

Thanks for helping a not-so new mini owner become a greater enthusiast...

Eric

Cars use a computer to control the engine. Timing, mixture etc.

The factory tune does not take advantage of all the engine's capabilities. A tune will download the current factory program, change parameters, and then upload it back into the car.

This lets you get more out of the equipment you install.

Even a stock car will have substantial gains. The more you change the engine, the more there is to gain. A 15% pulley and a tune will be a huge difference in how your car drives. More power in more of the RPM range.

As we set dates you can see if folks on your tune day are able to help with a pulley install if you have not done it already. Also you can call swift and ask if they can do it same day.
Changing the pulley is not hard and with the right guys and the proper tool, it is very do-able in the parking lot.

That sounds great, I definitely would be interested in getting in for a day as well. I'm open to both weekdays and weekends. I would prefer a weekday, but this also depends on the dates.

Thanks,

Eric
