steve i envy you. i cant wait for the snow melt. its gonna be hell for you to wait that long. i only had to wait a month because mine was already on the boat. that was hard enough. the test drive made it so much worse.

Well the only good news is I probably will not drive the car in NY winters anyway. I really don't want all the salt getting into the car. I guess some things in life you just have to live with and waiting is one of them.

what?? not going to drive your mini in the winter time? are you guys crazy? there is nothing better than whipping into a parking lot wheels turned, ebrake on and doing 360s. hitting that said ebrake around corners in the village, its the best! if you are worried about salt (and so am I) just do what i do, wash your car after each snowfall. doesnt take much, just hose it down. by the way, i live in watkins glen. and yes, that sounds great. nice drive around CNY. great!

I sometime visit Florida and when I stop to get an oil change I marvel at some of the other cars on lifts. They look like they just came out of the showroom. Trust me on this, once you drive your car over salty roads you will never get it out. Kinda like a salt water boat vs a fresh water boat, their never the same. I'm hoping to keep the GP prestine.

I'm willing to be an honorary member. :-) I left Ithaca in late '00, but I still get back there from time to time to visit family and friends. Heck, I'd drive from Indy for a club meetup at, say, the Chapter House...

i guess i never noticed how much damage salt does to cars. i usually try to keep it washed regularly, but still. i dont really want to ruin the paint job or anything, but i dont have another car...so ill make due.while im doing that, might as well have a blast in the snow..

The MINI's warranted for a dozen years for rust. Unless you're planning on making a collectors item out of it, just drive it, and wash it often. I bought a book of car washes from a local chain that does an underbody wash. I know automatic car washes will eat your paint and take your first born, but I'm entirely too prissy to get down on my hands and knees in a wash bay to do that myself. I took it through every couple of weeks when there was a lot of crap on the roads for added piece of mind. You could probably look into having it Ziebarted, too.

Ziebart are the rust inhibitor folks. They spray a rubberized paint-like substance on the underside of the car, which seals the car and prevents salt from doing its dirty little dance. Ziebart.com

I'm up in Baldwinsville, and am trying to plan a run out to Doug's Fish Fry sometime this summer/fall (new baby permitting), but would be very interested in a club or any activities.

I'm in the Baldwinsville area, and have been thinking about hosting a run to Skaneateles(sp?) sometime this summer/fall(new baby permitting), but would be interested in any kind of event/club/informal meeting anywhere upstate.

Doug's is fun- we had a small Mini meet last July & went to the Blue Water Grill (my cousin owns it). I like Skaneateles.

I've been doing a Finger Lakes Run the past 2 years in August (will be the weekend of 8/19 this year) doing paced laps on the Watkins Glen track, and then a picnic lunch.

Some of the New England folks (former SU alumni & Buffalo inhabitants) are atalking about a Dinosaur BBQ run, so that may be in the works too!

Any runs through the Finger Lakes are fun in a MINI, I did it all the time in my first MINI, an '02 PW/B and look forward to it in my '06 SR/S.

all most time for saturday nights at HD, Brewmeister, its always interesting the amount of attention the MINI gets there

I'm driving up to upstate Upstate NY next week and plan to take to the secondary roads to the east once past Syracuse on my way to Ogdensburg for a few days. Anything wrong with my plans? I don't like Interstates, but to make the drive from Southern Maryland in 12 hours or so, I have to take them most of the way. Would really like to stop by Senaca Lake country on the way back. Great wine country. Hope to see some of you all on the trip. I'll be sure to wave.

Motor On, Safely.
