RMW head + tune
 

Anyone know of a really good performance shop in the SF Bay Area for the head install? I want to get the RMW head put in before the tune. If I can't find someone good up here before Jan's visit then I'm just going to drive down to the shop he uses in SoCal and get it all done at once. Hate that drive though...

Any shop recommendations appreciated!

Edge motor works in Dublin, A&E in cupertino, Bay Bridge in Oakland (I think... PM Jimz68 for a few more).

I can recommend BBM. Jacques is cool and competent. He may try to convince you that you are spending too much on the RMW head, though...

San Carlos ....close is good but main thing is I want to make sure its done right ... Jan tells me he's had a few installed at Edge and A&E already, so probably go with one of those...

Hi B! Haven't been around the boards much lately, since it was too much temptation to keep modding. My original idea was to save up enough to get a new cylinder head, header, clutch/flywheel, and ECU done all at once, but if Jan will be in town, I figure I could just get the tune and have a more bearable put-together car for the time being. The water/methanol injection has reduced pinging and made throttle response as good as when I was adding octane booster, but I've always been a bit disappointed in the engine performance. We'll see how this turns out after Jan puts some work into it. :)

P.S. We've still got to clay your MINI! Shoot me a PM if you've got some time available - Saturday morning/afternoons are best for me.

noob question- does jan's tune require an ecu mod/chip or is it an alternative to an ecu mod/chip?

Seeing the results come in from the Helix tune going on right now is keeping me on edge - more so than the presidential primaries. :eek2:

I'm planning to do a refresh of the spark plugs, engine oil, air filter, and serpentine belt this weekend and next. I just hope Jan comes to town soon - I might be taking a new job, and won't have the opportunity to take a day off for a while.

Anyone with a RMW head/header/cam combo getting a flash done? I'm dying to see how it is in person.

I've got the RMW head/header/exhaust/ pistons and waiting for the cam. I should get it when he gets back from Helix. If Jan gets here soon enough I'll be there, other wise I'll be going down to here's place.

If Jan gets up here to the Bay Area/Fresno soon, it would be a boon to be scheduled on the same day as you - I definitely want to hear the sound of the RMW combo. I must be getting old because I feel like I'm already pushing the threshold for loudness on my setup, and I certainly don't need any more attention from the local LEOs. :sly:

I think we're doing ok with 20 members wanting this tune done. We have total of 20 members that want this tune done so far for a weekend event. I believe that should be sufficient. I could be wrong however and Jan could chime in on how many people would be a preferable number for this tunning session.

Not yet. Jan is still doing his touring around USA. :lol:

I have talked to Jan and we're trying to get the times and the shop picked. After that Jan will request for deposits so we can assure of all the participants and the amount of people willing to commit to this. :grin:

Again, please make sure you have taken your car for a quick check up before hand for any minor or major issues that you might be having. For example, any possible pulley belt slipping or any other issues that can be fixed. This will only make the process go faster since we don't want to steer away from the actual tune itself and getting stuck with fixing problems instead of just tuning. :thumbsup:

I still haven't heard what the projected expense of this service will be. If it has been mentioned earlier, please forgive my lack of diligent searching. Thanks. I've always wanted to do something like this with my car.

This is completely hearsay (I haven't talked to Jan for the pricing), but from other threads on NAM, RMW charges $350 for the tune itself + dyno time (typically $100 - $200, depending on the facilities).

I've been keeping track of developments on the MidCal sub-forum, and it looks like Jan will be visiting Fresno in the 1st week of February. :razz:

OK so the latest update is the shop that I have contacted has to let us know when and if they can host this event. So waiting for their response.
