A Jeep concept vehicle could be the first to use an early version of the supercharged engine destined for the New MINI Cooper S.
The Jeep ****** concept was first shown at the Detroit motor show in January. Sjoerd Dijkstra of Chrysler & Jeep in the US confirmed to MiniWorld that the ****** concept did have a 1600cc, 4 cylinder version of their supercharged Tri-Tech engine. When asked outright if it was the engine that BMW would use in the Mini, he said that he could not confirm anything but he did add that it was currently the only engine of its kind. He also told us that the engine provides155 lb ft of torque and an impressive 160bhp.
The motoring press are confident that the engine will be the one BMW will use for the Cooper S. Tristan Young, editor of Fleet Week told MiniWorld that he is, "almost dead certain," that the engine is destined to go into BMW¹s new baby. Chrysler are providing the MINI engines which are being made in Brazil, as part of an agreement made by Tritec Motors, a joint venture between Chrysler, BMW and the Brazillian government. The concept vehicle is currently at the Chicago motor show and may be at the Frankfurt show in September.
