Mike,
All that matters is that you are happy with your choice, but we all know if we put ourselves or our cars in the limelight we might get some responses we possibly may not appreciate. Post a pic of your spouse and you may also get some responses. Some may go RRRRR, and some may go BRRRR. Does it matter? No, you are the only one who needs to like and love her.
In the case of this thread though it would be really kind if you read what individual people said. The quotes which offended you did not come from me.
Happy motoring
Herbert

American V8=nice power+crappy car=blah car that makes a lot of noise but really isn't going anywhere all that fast.

And more oversensativity. You consider my opinion of a CAR an 'insult'? Puhlese.

I'll give all the remarks I care to on an open forum. Just because you don't share the opinion I have of those cars, that they are rolling piles of typical American crap, doesn't mean I am 'insulting' ANYONE. Get overyourself.

Understand everyone's entitled to post their opinion on an open forum. It just gives more credence to the saying, "better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and confirm it."

Except at Barrett-Jackson. Take a look some time on the speed channel at the prices they are getting for big block Vettes from the 60s. Then try to imagine a MINI getting that kind of money 40 years from now

Apples and oranges. Fully restored classic collectible show cars against a non-collectible production car...what's your point again?

Not apples and oranges. Many have been driven many miles. Garaged, yes. Some restored, some not. Brock Yates and Co does and excellent job at explaining which cars are worth buying (original) and those that are not. Further, when those cars were sold, they were meant to be driven, just like your MINI. No difference.

So whats your point?

Yes it IS apples and oranges - Minis are simply not collector car material. A more fair comparison would be like 60's normal cars, like a Galaxie or something normal, like a Mini. If you want to compare a big block Vette of the 60's, that would be like a C6 Z06 now. A Z06 will command collectible status in 40 years, a Galaxie does not.

The originator of the thread said he bought a Z06. You said:

American V8=nice power+crappy car=blah car that makes a lot of noise but really isn't going anywhere all that fast.

are you changing your mind now?

Not at all. Are you implying that just because a car is collectible, it's good all over? Obviously just because some people think it's crappy doesn't mean everyone will. They are collectible because of a fanatical following and rarity. Not because they are high quality automobiles. THAT would be a classic Ferrari, for example.
