MINI Cooper S Oil Drain Plug

I had unwisely used a 12 point socket on the oil drain plug the last oil change but was able to reuse the drain plug with the damaged head. Threads were of course undamaged. I bought a replacement drain plug from the MINI dealer in Greenville SC the last time I was there. Just changing my oil today and the new drain plug meets resistance when I first insert it into the oil pan. I immediately took it out and checked the part number. The bold head measures just at .502" and the part number on the bag is 11 13 7 513 050. Description is Screw Plug A 5. On the head of the bolt of the new plug is written sSc 4.8. The old plug has 4.8 with four dots under the number. The threads on the new bold appear to be a little worse for wear. Could that cause the problem I am having? or do the four dots under the number 4.8 signify something different? Car is currently drained and cannot fill until I can get a plug back in. Hate to use the old plug again as the head is not in good shape.

Use a small file and clean up the threads on the new plug.

Lay the new plug threads into the threads of the old plug. If the fit exactly, then it is the same thread pitch. If they don't you have the wrong plug.
