R50/53 ooo God problem

ooo God problem

HELP!!!

today on my way home from work i left off the gas and there was a slight thudding,clicking noise. almost sounds like axel, or wheel bearing. its an 02 MCS with 45,000 miles ..... ne ideas

i had a loose axle nut that made noise during the application and removal of torque (acceleration and deceleration)

the car was delivered with a loose nut. an "assembly" was replaced as a recall.

got it!!! it was only a couple loose lugs on the driver front wheel. its all good now. thanks for the input tho

Yikes! I'm glad you found the problem. I presume you checked and retorqued the remaining three wheels at 88.5 ft lbs, which doesn't feel that tight when you're on the wrench, but seems to be the consensus for the proper torque on R53 MINIs.

What's the build date on your 2006? If you have the newer 14mm lug bolts, the proper torque is 103 lbf-ft, not 88.5. MINI made a running change in the lug bolts in mid-2006, but never updated the owner's manual. I'm curious if the owner's manual for the 2007 convertibles were even updated with the new torque spec.
