Another Window Motor Problem/Question
I apologise if this has been answered somewhere on this board before but, all I've found is dealers doing the window motor replacement under warranty. Mine isn't anymore... Anyways..
My Drivers side Window motor is dead and i need to replace it -
Do I have to buy the motor at the dealer or are there other places?
Prices?

there is the trick of hitting the door panel which sometimes gets the window working. but I am curious about a new motor as well. I dont see much point in getting the motors replaced if they use the same crappy OEMs that break in a matter of months. you would think, seeing the number of problems, they would have an improved version somewhere.

Hey Trapster,
Yea, its been discussed. You can use the search tool just under the yellow MINI in the upper right corner. What you will find is lots of problems with the switch in the door and not necessarily the motor itself. Some novel solutions have included revving the motor, turning up the radio and giving a swift fist to the door between the handle and the radio speaker as you hold the switch up (or down depending on which way its stuck.) Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Yes, my dealer last year didn't want to look at it when I was up there for scheduled maintenance (it was working at the time). My driver's side window has intermittently not worked during each of the last 3 summers, sometimes for days, other times for weeks. (Never a problem in the spring, fall and winter!) The frustrating part last year was that when it was not working I was all set to bring it up to them, however had 700 miles still left on the maintenance clock, and their new policy was not to do "early" scheduled maintenance any longer. By the time the clock ticked down, the window had started working again!
Next time I'm up there I'm going to try to get them to either "repair" it, or at least put something in writing that they will replace it when it fails out of warranty.
