clunk goes the clutch
O.k.... my 2006 R50 MC Miranda the other night, while idling in neutral in the drive-thru made a 'clunk' sound when I went to go into the 1st gear to start off. Could have sworn I had the clutch all the way in. Maybe I'm just being ****, since it's happened twice... and I dont abuse the clutch like some do.. but I do tend to think of the posts I've read here about the new MC's that are experiencing transmission problems right off the lot. Miranda has 9k on her, with 2k left for her first oil change. Or another way to look at it... the dealer is 3 hrs away (road trip and a day off work).
Is there anything 'I' can do to address this problem? Does the brake resevior have anything to do with the clutch fluid?
Thanks!

clunking clutch
Spoke to the service manager on the phone today... he said that the getrag tranny/ clutch can be noisey at times... and the clunk I hear is normal although intermittent. I'm still going to take it in on the 5th... but doubt we'll be able to duplicate the noise. You know how it is when you take your vehicle to the shop, it never makes the noise it was making a block away. I must admit though... at least its not a grinding.

As for the fluid, check the rear section of the resevoir, just eyeball it....it should look level all the way across the resevoir. It's a chambered unit, meaning that the front ot the resevoir is for the brake fluid and the rear is ment for the clutch fluid.
That sound you decribing sounds like the clutch isn't full engaged. Even though you said it was, this could be a fluid issue. If all is well between now and your first dealer visit, make sure you tell your service advisor to at least have the techs bleed the clutch.
As for the reverse issue, here is what I do: If you are having diffuculty shifting into reverse, with the clutch in shift to second gear. Then with the clutch in shift to reverse, 95% of the time it'll go in. I have an early build cooper with the five speed Midlands, and have also made this work on a newer cooper with a Getreg. As for the six speed, I've never tried it.

clunk went the clutch
I spoke with the Service Manager (where I purchased Miranda). As mentioned in a earlier post and as said by the Service Manager... "its a Getrag, and they can be noisey at times". He said not to worry, but said to bring it in (next time I'm in the area) and he'd check it out with me.
Since making the clunk, it hasnt happened again. Thankfully! Even when idling in neutral, and then engaging into 1st. No problem. In fact, strange as it may sound... it seems to be driving/ operating better. A lot smoother..

My 2006 mini has 13,000 miles and I'm experiencing eratic clutch problems sometimes as I shift into reverse there will be a slight grinding sound I have the clutch fully depressed to the floor board and I sort of double clutch and she goes into gear. As I said it is erratic not every time. Has anybody else experienced this.

You guys are way ahead of me in "naming that part" department. But, here goes. I have a 2003 mini, bought used with about 42k mi. Her name is Lily! Anyway, have all the records and very well maintained by prior owner. Had the car now for about 5 mos. Lately I've heard a click every time I release the gas pedal and/or release the clutch. No click depressing the clutch or gas only when I release it. Took it in to have gear box oil changed and he checked out the clutch. Said nothing wrong. This is something new and I'd like to find out how to correct it. Any ideas? Thanks.

the only problem I have on my 2006 MC is it won't go to 1st gear sometimes so I had to practice shifting from 2nd just to get it rolling. Reverse on the other hand is so clunky I learned to just ignore it. As long as the getrag proves reliable I can live with clunkiness=) (Cross fingers)
Little trip my daddy taught me about grinding 1st and reverse.
If it resists first gear- let the clutch out at least half way and push back.
To avoid the reverse grind - shift forward to 1st or third, then slide it into reverse...
