I gave LDG the go - they said it should be ready in a few days. Can't wait to get back behind the wheel!

(phew, it's not blown)

The basic fix is to replace the valve springs, valve seal, cylinder head gasket, spark plugs, air filter, thermostat, etc. This would get me back in running order, for about $3k including the diagnostics they've already performed.

An additional option is for some preventative work - good things to do for a high mileage engine that's already torn apart. It includes timing cover, oil pan gasket, timing chain, chain rails, cam gear, crank gear, etc. This would run an additional $1k or so.
I'm no expert, but I think $4K is allot for the work you mentioned... Did you check with other shops on the same job scale? You can get a brand new Big Valve head for $2K... the thermostat and spark plugs are cheap then add installation.

I feel for you man... it sucks to have a major break down Good luck

I agree with you on this he could have replaced the head with a better performing head for the same price, well as the old saying goes do your home work or you will get bit in the **s

Total parts cost is about $1500 with the route I'm going. If I did a whole new head in addition to the rest of the parts, it'd be significantly more expensive.

I'm comfortable with getting the engine back to stock performance with an expectation of longevity. I'm not looking for massive WHP at this time.

So $1500 for parts and $1500 for labor just to fix the head + another $1000 for preventative maintainance, thats a total of $$2500 in labor thats pretty steep, and thats more than what the dealers charge to replace an engine.

One more update to close out the thread. I picked up the car at LDG yesterday. It runs just fine, and it's great to have it back!

They said to be easy on it for the first 200 miles, then let it rip.

I've got a box of all the old parts they took out. If I get a chance I'll post up a couple photos.

I also put on my new license plates today, "CUPR"

Thanks for all your help, guys!
