Ok, I've searched this site for threads relating to sunroof rattles. All I've found so far is "take it to the dealer (or dealer fixed it)" or add felt.
My 03 is waaay out of warranty, so take it to the dealer won't work.
My sunroof rattles when it is open or closed. If I apply pressure on it (upward) then it stops. I've checked out all the screw/fasteners that I can see and they are all very tight. BUT, there is "give" when I apply the pressure on the window.
So, does anybody know what the cure is? The "add felt" won't do anything when it is open (and i have it cracked open nearly all the time).
Your help will save my sanity! Thanks.

Lube it!!! You can use the wire for the tire jack to apply it to the rails

Can be purchased at any BMW Dealership

Part number: 83 23 0 306 232

The remedy in the troubleshooting guide says to give the rails a good cleaning and then lubricate.

 

The sunroof on my '04 MCS started rattling in cold weather. The dealer ended up replacing the entire sunroof assembly, claiming it was warped. Prior to that, they greased it and added felt - this did not fix it. Fortunately I had this taken care of prior to the warranty expiring. I can't imagine how much this would cost out-of-warranty.

There are some TSBs out there for sunroof rattles, have you seen any of these?
