What oil

hey guys, i'm sure this has been covered before, but i'm new to the forums and i thought it might be good to get some new opinions.

i have an 04 mc, it has about 90,000 on the clock. runs like a top.

i've run amsoil 5-40 euro formula since she was new.

what oil is in YOUR crankcase?

What oil are you using?

In both of my Minis, a 2003 MCS and its replacement, I have used and continue to use the Mini branded Castrol.

Right or wrong that's what I use.

Hope this helps...

German Castrol, a damn heavy 0W-30...essentially a very light 5W-40.

Mobil 1 Extended performance. it's good for 15,000 miles, since the MINI only wants you to change the oil every 10,000 miles or so I wanted to make shure the oil would hold up. I do change the oil filter every six months.

I use the Mini recommended Castrol since it's under warranty still.

This is just the topic I need help with! I went to get some Castrol SYNTEC oil (5W-30) and noted that the OM states you need an API of SH or higher. The oil container says it has API SM/CF... Is it okay that I run the SM grade or is it of lesser quality than SH?

Thanks!

Same here. 5K changes are easy to remember and gives me a chance to check plug torque regularly. Artoo also runs like a top and has now passed 75,000 miles.

i personally go 8000 miles between changes, i've had a UOA (used oil analysis) done, and the amsoil has plenty of life in it at that point...

aorr , everytime API standards change , the second letter goes up one letter. SM meets a higher standard than SH . So yes , SM will be fine .
