Powder Coating Rims?

My '02 Cooper S's stock rims could use some color, as they are relatively light enough (~24 lbs a piece) and I really have no need for anything bigger (sf streets tend to do work on big rims). But I really would like to powder coat the rims a bark broze / gold, like almost smoked. Didn't know if there was anyone who had a recomendation on a good place in the bay area to check this out, or if it was really even possible. All and any helps appriciated.

Any good powder coat shop should be able to take care of you . Depending on how many coats , some require two to get the color you want it should run between 50 and 100 per wheel. I had mine done over 50,000 miles ago and the finish is still fine .I am not familiar with the color "bark" bronze though

No Randy you read that wrong. It's not Bark Bronze, it's Bark Broze! Haven't you heard of that color?? LOL

Yeah, doing single color powder coats is pretty easy. I had my wheels chemically stripped first. Not sure if it would be the same on the factory wheels that are already powder coated--whether it would be chemically stripped or sand blasted, but the powder coating shop will inform you if they don't already do it themselves.

Have you heard the debate over the heat used to bake the PC weakening the metal in the rim? I'm not sure if im a skeptic but its something to look in to.

If you go to a good shop that has done a lot of wheels they know the proper mix of heat verses finish. One of the best shops in L.A, the one that other Powder Coat shops send their tricky stuff too, is Andrews Powdercoating .

I used MAAS Brothers in Livermore, Ca. They did a real nice job on my wheels. It cost me $70.00 per wheel. The only problem is it takes 10 days, but if you are in the area they will deliver them to you when there done. Hope this helps.
PS. thier in the yellow pages under Power Coating

I had my wheels powdercoated by a local guy who specialized in powdercoating aftermarket Porsche parts. Love the finish and haven't had any issues
