just a quick tip. when you change the filter you can add a couple dryer sheets on the outside of the filter, helps get rid of the smell, without those stupid pine tree things.

It works like a charm, and the dryer sheets are built to have air flow through them, so no risk.. just make sure its set up as follows:

outside air -> dryersheet -> filter -> vent

otherwise the dryersheet will get blown into your vent system, which could be a problem

Ok, finally found the time to install my filter...
-first off, use a flashlight the first time you do this.
It's hard to see upside down, and you don't want to break the tabs off the plastic cover.
-when you pull out the filter, have the plastic bag that the new filter came in handy. My old one was filled with gunk.
-look for the arrow showing air flow on the end of the filter; you want to make sure you put it in right.
-since the filter curves up and back into the vent system, don't be afraid to push it up and in.
Keep the edges flat on the filter housing, and it should slide right in place.

Big difference! I run re-circ air almost all the time to avoid fumes and dust...
I think I'll go to a 9-month cycle from here on in.

thanks again Xymox for the heads up!

TYC is a quality aftermarket (& OEM) company that will stand behind their products. We've been selling their cooling & lighting products for years. I've seen their filter line during a tour of one of their distribution centers and would not hesitate in using the product.

Um, you all have me a bit confused. I can't find the spot on the website where he found the filter. What NAME are you clicking on in the manufacturer's links? Mini is not listed and it's not under BMW as in BMW-Mini either.

So I hit the usual MINI places. OutMotoring prefers to charge you $42.95 (which may not even be carbon activated). And MiniMania would like to charge you $56.95 for a carbon activated cabin air filter. Not likely!

I found a brilliant alternative. The site is A to Z Autolights ( www.atozautolights.com ). They carry the OEM replacement made by the company TYC. Not only is it nearly identical to the OEM (3M Company) replacement, but it's carbon activated too! And the cost? $8.31.

Just looking out for my fellow thrifty motorists.
it's in the 1st post above.

I bought 3 of them for less than the $37 cost for 1 from Classic MINI. They fit well & seem to be of the same quality as the OEM filter.

I was thinking my AC was getting weak. When I pulled the old filter out I saw why. That darned thing was about plugged solid with all kinds of nasty carp. With the new filter in there I find myself running the AC fan one notch slower now. The air is moving once again.

Bought and installed the filter 2 weeks ago. The air flow in the cabin seems to be greater now and all is working fine. At the price and looking at the construction it is a quality product and the price is right.

I just ordered one for shipment to Edmonton, Alberta. Total cost was $29. I had to place the order over the phone as they don't support the online order placement for Canada.

What year were you searching for? I had the same problem when I searched for model year 2008. It appears they either haven't updated their online system to show parts for 2008 MINIs or they don't carry them (I suspect the former).

I sent them an email asking if they have the products I'm looking for. Will report back as soon as I find out.

I ordered this part Tuesday night and it arrived Friday morning (delivered to San Jose, CA)... should've ordered more than one =/

Interesting, I finally got around to trying to change this, mine looks nothing like the replacement. The original has no plastic on it, and the new one with the plastic didnt want to fit as nicely. I gave up and put the original back in since it was clean and fit better.

Thanks for the Amazon heads up. I just ordered 2 which qualified for free super saver shipping so I got 2 for $37.98 total (It was almost $6 for shipping or spend another $6 & get free shipping). I hope I can get the new one in when it gets here

I received my filter last week and installed it on the weekend. I definitely suggest using some type of lubricant when putting in the new filter. My old one was extremely dirty and was obviously hindering air flow. I was very impressed with the entire process. FYI, I'm in Canada and you have to phone directly to place an order.

I'm thinking of replacing the filter twice a year from now on.
