'04 Cooper Front Map/ Reading Lights?

OK... this may be a silly question...I just purchases a pre-owned 2004 MC from the dealer. When checking the car out, test drivinging etc., I didn't think to look at the interior lighting situation. It wasn't until I drive the car at night, three days later, that I noticed the car did not have front reading/map lights!

1. Is this standard or normal?
2. Is there a kit that can be installed to add the lights?

This isn't a major issue but I find the the dome light is not bright enough when looking for things towards the front of the car.

Thanks

I assume that your car has the sunroof, like mine. I agree, the placement of the dome light is useless; without a sunroof it is somewhat better. I have not seen an aftermarket solution.

Yes. I have a sunroof. This is pretty weird. Just seemed like something that all cars would have no question about it. I had been looking into the brighter LED lights to get some more light in the car.

i've got an 03 mcs and added a sylvania dot-it light where the maplights should be. it does the job well... and costs only $8! it sticks using double-sided tape so i stuck it onto the empty black space by the sunroof controls.

here's my interior:

that little oval blocking the clock is the sylvania dot-it.

Since we are talking about that sunroof switch location. Anyone know what the vented thing on the panel opposite of the switch to the sunroof is?

The early MINIs have map lights. On the tips of the oblong dome light, there are buttons that light the front seat area.

Does this include 2004 mini's?

I don't see why they would take it away after using it in 02 and 03. Did you check yours?

I've read somewhere (MotoringFile?) that a mic for the early bluetooth phone adapter snapped into that 'vented thing'.

mine's an early-build (9/03) '04 and mine has 'em. there's the dome light and two reading lights. they work pretty well. plus when you hit the dome light the footwell lights also come on so it gets pretty well lit up. i've never needed extra light at night. i actually like the dome light location 'cuz the '05+ has them up front where the clock is on the earlier cars, and they feel pretty a bit flimsy

mine doesn't have the sunroof

Are the dome lights different between sunroof and non-sunroof cars?

Cause my tin-top has 3 lights in the dome. The center flood light and on either side it has a bright projector type map light. Each with its own button.
