Well today I brought my wife to check out the MINI S.

We went to our local Dealership, and I could already tell I wasnt going to buy from this Dealer (Braman Mini - West Palm Florida)...

$1500.00 in Manditory Accessories + a large prep fee.

$1000 of it was a interior treatment... when I asked what that ment he startedto stumble a bit and told me all the cars at the dealership were treated...

I asked what benifit is it?
He stumbled a bit more

Is there a warranty...
He said he wasnt sure. maybe a year.

I said I have to get this?
He said that all the cars had $1500.00 on installed accessories and that how it is.

I said - So for 1500 I get some treatment for the interior that costs a grand, floor mats, and pin strips?
He said Yup.

I then rebutted a bit... Leather doesnt need to be treated... all it needs is conditioning which happens over time. Not with a $1000.00 treatment.
He started getting pissed...

BTW I was wearing a Green Mini hat. =)

I started to play a bit more...

What if I dont want the pistripes? Do I have to get them?
He said yes all cars get them.

Finally I asked could I change out the accessories for somethings I would actually want?
He said no.

I said good day then.

Why did I screw with him? Because he had an attitude, and because that is just bad business. Why did I walk in with a MINI hat? So people would at least see I already like the brand and most likely have a clue about what is going on...

Will I buy a MINI I do believe so... They are so darn cool for goodness sakes.

What did I do after that... I researched your Dealer rating system? And found that Ft. lauderdale MINI had the best rating.... I then went to the web address and wrote a email to one of the sales advisors based on the admiration of the ratings she received...

We will see what happens from here.

Thanks for letting me do a little creative writing and investigation =) and voicing my nonsense on this open forum

It's a bit like going to a ticket scalper. "No sir, scalping is illegal, but if you buy this nice looking tie for $500, you get two free tickets."

You had every right to "screw with him" for these insane add-ons.

Case in point. Whenever I go to look at a car to buy through auto-trader or something like that... I ask the seller... What condition is the car in? If he says "MINT" or "PERFECT" or "9 out of 10" I expect a pretty flawless car. I always specifally ask about dents, dings, interior tears and such.

If I drive out there and the car has been misrepresented, I get really pissed for them wasting my time. I will often act interested and then present them with a very insulting $$ offer for their car. Then just leave.

If people/dealers can't explain something legitimately or accurately, they deserve whatever they get from you.

On the other hand folks, I have a hard time accepting the two wrongs make a right principle. I kind of figure that the generators of bad karma will get theirs in the end. If anything, my task might to be warn others, but not to seek vengence.

But whatever gets you off...

However, when a dealership jacks you around and doesn't train the motoring advisors well, they deserve a little tweaking! Good luck finding your MINI!

Cheers!

U4EA, Sorry to hear you had a bad experience at Braman MINI in contrary mine was excellent. I bought my MCS from Tony Roderick. Here is the break down and you make the call if the price is too much. A Dark Silver Black top, leather seats, premium and sports package, heated seats, for $24885 plus tax and usual fees. I was told that the car has 6 miles with paint protection and pinstripe added by the dealer. I am flying out of San Diego Sunday evening to pick up the car Monday morning Sept 9, 2002. I will let you know if delivery is just as good as I expect to be.

Had similar experience at Braham.

Planning to adopt the salestaff at Lauderdale Mini as family.
I have "Mulligan" (BRG/wht) for 3 months now and both my daughters have ordered theirs at MSRP.
