Fuel Filter Replacement

Halifax BMW tells me I should never have to change my Fuel Filter?!

And I asked them if they have any in stock, they said no..

I have a 2002 cooper s, and it just doesn't feel right to have an original fuel filter sitting in the car...

That is because the filter is in the gas tank. I asked the same of the MINI dealership I used to work for and they told me that it was something that basically you don't replace unless it fails. It always sounded to me like a cop out but it is rather expensive to have the tank drained and removed to get to that bugger. My understanding is that it is more of a series of screens rather than a paper filter.
