I just heard on Denver 4 morning news that JD Power has listed the MINI as one of the top 10 "Ugly Cars". Googled, but cannot find the article referenced. Did anyone else hear this or know where the information came from?

Can't say that I have been able to find it either, but JD Powers did bring us the lowly rating due to the cupholders, so anything coming from them is suspect.

Ugly?? I think I saw an article about this subject posted on Msnbc.com yesterday.

Perhaps the authors need to have both, their eyes and heads checked.

Lumping the MINI with the likes of an Aztek, Avalanche, Infiniti FX, etc is just a cheap shot against the market success of the MINI.

HEY!! I think the Infiniti FX is just about the coolest car out there! I LOVE IT!! Compared to any other SUV, I think it's beautiful! So whoever said the FX and the MINI are ugly can SUCK IT!

form the MSNBC article:

"Some vehicles are almost universally beloved for their appearance. The Mini Cooper somewhat surprisingly falls into this category, as do luxury models like the Jaguar S-Type, Infiniti G-35 and Mercedes-Benz CLK."

I have to agree that the Infiniti FX is digusting looking. It seems to be one of those vehicle - either you love it or hate it. One of my biggest complaints is that its wheels are about 3 or 4 sizes too large. Even in stock form with those wheels it looks too...how should I say...bling bling for me.

Frankly, WHO CARES what other people think, I bought the Mini for me, uhhh, for my Wife, but you know what I mean.

For JDP that should read:

"Beauty is in the eye of the cupholder"

Thanks, this search wasn't easily found. I understood the point of the report....and JD Power certainly loves power. Definitely gets audience attention as the news stated it in an entirely different manner...of course.

Are you kidding? The FX is ugly? I have both an FX and a MINI and I think they are both awesome! I love my "bling bling" 20's on my FX. This thing handles AMAZINGLY.

Just my $0.02

I think the FX looks "Gaudy" but in a different sort of way from, say, a Cadillac Escalade.

I think the FX looks cool, but much prefer the Murano cousin. I have read reports on lack of storage and rear passenger space in the FX which I find a bit disconcerting because this pretty much defeats the purpose of having a luxury "SUV".

How about ANY Pontiac vehicle! Pontiac makes THEE ugliest cars on the road by far. Have you seen the new Sunfire? That thing just gets more grotesque with each model revision.

Pontiac's best looking car, perhaps the Toyota Corolla/Matrix based Vibe is still uglier than the ugliest car from any other make and even though the Bonneville and Montana are more plain and not as offensive as the rest of the model line, they are still hideous.

I refer to the Aztek as the "Asstek" myself. They was courtesy
of Lloyd Reuse (sp?) junior who pushed it thru...
At GM they have a term "that car is on LSD"- Lloyd says do it!

Am I the only one who actually read this article. Nowhere within did the author state that the MINI was an ugly car. In fact he said that the MINI was "beloved for its appearance".

How someone can misconstrue this information is beyond me. Jaguar S-Type, Infiniti G-35 and Mercedes-Benz CLK are all very fine AND beautiful cars. The MINI was dropped into the same category as those.

I think the author was showing the contrast in style preferences. Ugly= Aztek, PT Cruiser and the Avalanche. No style= Camry and Accord. Pretty (or Handsome...whatever you prefer)= MINI, CLK, G-35 and S-Type.

This is how I viewed the comments. Maybe I am just crazy. Do me a favor and read it once more, then tell me what you think.

Regards,
Ollie

I agree about sentiments on Pontiac... heck almost every American car for that matter. The American bigger is better mentality shines through, especially with the Aztec and it's ugly mini-me lookin' cousin the Vibe: bigger and more plastic add-on crap. I know they're not related, but they look like ugly brothers. Take a look at the difference between the Vibe and the Toyota Matrix. Which one is selling better?

Then again, the majority of Americans will put up with ugly cheap looking cars that don't last for the sole reason that they are "American cars." I put that in quotes because a lot of "foreign cars" are built here, and most American cars are partially assembled in Mexico and S America. But that's getting off topic, sorry.

Remember, we need to have these really ugly cars on the road to make our MINI's stand out even more

P.S. - the FX is a pretty badass SUV. Just don't get gold logos on it or else it is too bling bling. Unless that look is the shizzle to ya.

I didn't have a problem with the article, it was the fact that our humble newscasters decided to report the top 10 ugly cars without saying anything more. Suspected there was more to the story....as such with most of the news reported.
