Worked on the MCS for the 1st time, learned a few things. Need some seasoned advice.
This started off as an install of a b&m short shifter.
Long before i was done, i was cursing and gave up. Not typical for me- at all.
How in god's name am i supposed to get the rear hangers off the exhaust.
I mean, i understand the principal of removing a hanger, I've done it on other cars.
I tried forever. No luck, neither even budged.
After this defeat, since the car was already in the air, and i had all the stuff i needed-
i figured i'd change the oil.
i drain it all out, go to remove the filter.
oops, no 36mm socket. Can't go get one, no oil in my car.
After some handy (not at all) work with an adjustable wrench, trying from both the top and bottom, I finally got it off.
Before re-installing it, I introduced my filter cap to mr. drill press.
I drilled two holes in the sides of the "nut" at the top.
The idea comes from the K&N oil filters.

The holes allow me to run a wire, just something I've picked up from being at the track.
Plus, If i'm without a 36mm, I can get an allen key in there, or something similar to turn the cap off. :tu:
I HIGHLY recommend this mod.
After getting back in the car, I attempted to reset my oil change indicator, using these instructions:
http://www.tech-esq.com/Site/Engine/...indicator.html
Didn't go like they said... but it's reset. reset to 15,000 miles IIRC.
(theres no way i'll wait that long, i just didn't want to see it)
All done, right? Wrong. Service Engine Soon light is still on.
****, I figure out this is MINI's version of the check engine light.
So I'll be running to autozone tomorrow to get the code pulled.
The car drives perfect, so fingers are crossed it's nothing terrible.
so yeah, need help on:
1. exhaust hangers
2. navigating through the dash controls/options, diagnostics, etc.
3. CEL. :(
Thoughts?

Look here http://www.lonestarminiclub.com/foru...=4641#post4641 for three OCI reset procedures.
To release the OE hangers, put anti-seize around the rubber isolator hole on the side with the barb, squeeze using large channel locks with one jaw tip on the barb head and the other on the back side of the rubber isolator while bending so that one side of the hole opens wider, finish by wiggling/twisting free. There is a tool for this but I’ve not tried it http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/p-3103-lisle-38350.aspx .

In regards to the rear hangars. I just pulled like hell. I unbolted everything and had those to hangars to pull. The best way to get them out is twist them and allow the tension to pull it through the rubber. It looks like its going to break something, but it won't, eventually it'll pop out.
Good luck with it.
Good luck with it.
