Very nice for that to have been a warranty repair.
I think the PS pump dieing is going to be one of those things that eventually will happen to most MINI's.
My PS fan was replaced last year & the new one is starting to make the same growling/grumblie noise. Looks like the dealer will have to warranty it for me.

I've found this MINI2 poll to be a fairly revealing testimonial to the issue:
http://www.mini2.com/forum/poll.php?...lts&pollid=836
...and given that people can only vote once in it, it's easy to conclude that over the life of this poll there are folks in the first category that have since migrated into the latter ones...

Also check threads abiut engine bay fires.
Early MINIs ('02-'04) had 3 different versions of the pump before they got it right in '05; serious PS problems with the pump are very rare in '06 on.
Apparently some '05 cars still had the older pump, so if you are a late '05 build you should be fine.
Tha fan is a bit different. Due to the location it can get filled with debris and may burn out just from a plastic bag or such getting in there.
As was said, do a search there a multitude of posts that will inform you.
