On July 22 I celebrated 5 years with Penny, my PW/B R53.

Over the years we traveled 82,804 miles, and I spent $48,809 or $.59 per mile:

• Payments $26,403
• Annual Registration $893
• Insurance $6,418
• Gas $8,835
• Service $1,345
• Repairs $1,327
• Parts (including 10 tires) $3,588

The totals aren't perfect since sometimes I bought a car wash at the gas station, or might have paid cash for something, etc., but they're pretty close.

The repairs list isn't too bad: one wheel-speed sensor, one hydraulic engine mount, valve-cover gasket, A/C condenser, one broken wheel.

My only regrets are not getting the MFSW and deciding to stop for dinner one night and ending up with my Mini's nose bashed in when an SUV backed into it at a stop light.

I've considered trading for a less-used Mini, or even getting an R56, but nowadays I'm looking forward to at least a few more years of happy motoring. I hope everybody's Mini is as great as mine - and I hope you're treating yours well (and saving all your records)!

I have a 2002 R50. The first sold in the state of FL and #13 off the boat.

gas - 48500 mi @ 30mpg x $2.50 price per gallon = 4041
Bentley manual, 36mm wrench, etc, headlight - 100

= $15001 spent over 48500.

Cost per mile: $.31

 

Buying used will definitely keep your cost per mile down, even with a clutch replacement. I'm not looking forward to that expense. I'm sure other repairs/replacements are lurking, too, but they'll definitely be less expensive than car payments.
