Reseting Computer Inspection Countdown
I've got an 06 MCS and I just passed an oil inspection on the computer but I didn't want to pay the dealer to do an oil change so I did it myself. My question is how do I reset this countdown? I'm sure I have another inspection like Inspection 2 coming up after this one and I don't want to mess up the countdown to that.

You may find this useful if you do your own oil changes. Keep in mind you should wait until your factory service expires, since resetting the indicator may lead the dealer to deny oil changes since the indicator does not indicate an oil change is due.
Press and hold the trip odometer button.
Insert car key and turn it to the first position.
Watch for the word "RESET" to appear on the Odometer indicator.
Release the trip odometer button, then press & hold it again.
Wait for the "RESET" message to flash.
Release the button, and then press & release (once only)
The Service interval is now reset
Press and hold the trip odometer button.
Insert car key and turn it to the first position.
Watch for the word "RESET" to appear on the Odometer indicator.
Release the trip odometer button, then press & hold it again.
Wait for the "RESET" message to flash.
Release the button, and then press & release (once only)
The Service interval is now reset

AND do not be surprized if a number of miles to go appears that's not what you expected ..... it DOES change .....

Follow up question: does the above procedure reset both the oil and service inspection intervals? My service warranty period has expired, but the vehicle warranty has a year to go and I'm, 2,500 miles from the next inspection. I was thinking about chaning the oil myself, but I could wait until after the next dealer inspection.
Thanks

These techniques reset the mileage counter
but I found a really cool feature of of the Bavarian Tecnic software. You can adjust the interval and service counter at will.

When you click on "adjust values", you can change the interval or the counter independantly.
Admittedly, this software isn't free. But if you want to use the internal oil and service counters and do your own changes and the like, it can't be beat.
Check it out here at the FES-Auto web site.

countdown clock not counting down?
I replaced oil and filter the other day at about 75,000 miles. I usually don't reset the countdown clock and let it run negative. However, this time I attempted to reset it. When I was done pressing buttons according to many posts here and my shop manual, the countdown clock read 15,150 miles or something like this. Thing is, I've driven about 600 miles and it has not changed. Can anyone tell me what I did wrong or whether it'll change when it feels like it? All mileage is high speed highway at about 270 miles per week accumulated in a round trip.

Keep an eye on it,... even if its stretching it because of your highway miles, it should begin to count backwards soon. It reminds me of when I fill the tank, it shows 300 miles till next fill up. After I get on the highway it goes up to 380, but by that time I've already traveled 20 miles. Some of this stuff seems illogical....

When I bought the car at 72k, CARFAX showed a service record of inspection and oil change being done at MINI dealership at 68k Miles. At that time the OBC showed that I had 12k miles until oil change. Now at 78k miles it shows I have 6k miles till oil change. -I'll do it this weekend or next. I check it very often, and I also put a lot of highway miles on. For me I feel comfortable changing oil every 6 or 9 thousand.... I'm just past that. I know a guy on here with over 300k on his clock, says he uses the manufacturer suggested intervals (15k) for oil change.
