R50/53 Traffic signal prisms/reflectors
#1
When I stop at many traffic signals in my S the roof blocks my view of the signal. I have to hunch over the steering wheel and crane my neck back to see the signal lights … a small annoyance but still a pain in the neck. Is anyone aware of a vendor who sells the dash/windscreen mounted prisms/reflectors which allow you to see the signal from a normal driving position? Thanks for you help.

We had this very discussion at a MINI run today. I think it was dkstone who had the device that you are referring to. I forget where he said that he got it but you can try and PM him for an answer. He said that it really worked well.

Edit: It wasn't dkstone that had it, but look 2 posts down for link to the product.

I have the Light In Sight in my MINI.
It works pretty well, and I don't have to stretch my neck forward.
There are downsides; one is the sun could be in the wrong spot and that could be pretty annoying. Another is that instead of looking at a traffic light 30 feet away, you need to focus on the fresnel lens 2 feet away. It is quite a bit difference. However I usually don't try to focus on the lens anymore and just get used to seeing 2 red lights instead of one.

I too found myself hunching over to see the traffic light whenever I happened to be first in line at the light. At some intersections it could be a long and painful hunch.
I have noticed that a traffic light remains visible from the driver-side window after the windshield view has been obscured.
So I am now in the habit pulling up no further than the point where the side window view of the light just begins to be blocked. No gadget needed.

>>You may also find some info about this on an Audi TT owners site. They (the coupes at least) are even more notorious for this.
never noticed it in our TT coupe. i guess i just don't pull up to the light too far? that seems like the obvious answer to me, but i don't have my mini yet.

Is something wrong with my monitor or is that a gold MINI on the cover of a 2001 issue of Car & Driver on the http://www.lightinsight.com link? I thought the gold color was new.
